The ABS control system is improved using fuzzy logic which takes into account the slewing forces on the vehicle and any instability caused by braking. The braking program is modified to provide a balanced braking control by monitoring the changes in the slewing forces etc. The system monitors the changes in wheel speed, steering setting, speed etc. The system is extended by including rear wheel steering in which the steering setting of the rear wheels is compared with the steering setting of the front wheels and the dynamics of the vehicle. Detection and signalling of situation of antilock-braked vehicle - involve characterisation and filtering of values of transverse acceleration, angle of steering and front wheel braking pressures

The situation is assessed from determination (1) of the transverse acceleration (b sub y) from the steering angle (delta v) of the front wheels and from the braking pressures (Pv1,Pvr) thereon. A characteristic (Kby) is obtd. (4) which has a value declining from 1 towards zero as the transverse acceleration increases. The pressure difference (delta p) between the front wheel brakes is corrected and a filtered characteristic is obtd. (5) which rises to 1 and remains at that vale with increasing pressure difference. A change-of-course characteristic (Kspw(k)) is stored in a buffer memory (7a). ADVANTAGE - Friction-coefft.-split braking, curve-following, changes of course and straight-line running can be distinguished for optimal ride stabilisation making significantly fewer demands on driver.
