Disclosed is a method of treating spent equilibrium catalyst (ECAT) for reuse, in which a quantity of spent ECAT comprising hydrophilic particles with differing levels of metal contamination is disposed into a reactor and treated to form carbon nanotubes on the particles having metal contamination, thereby rendering at least a portion of the spent ECAT particles hydrophobic; the hydrophobic particles can then be separated from the hydrophilic particles. Also disclosed is a method of remediating an oil spill using a carbon nanotube sponge material.

Compositions comprising post-consumer recycled (PCR) waste are described. The PCR is combined with at least one virgin resin and a propylene-based compatibilizer that enhances the blend between the PCR and virgin resin as well as improving one or more physical properties of the composition. The propylene-based compatibilizer is a reactor made thermoplastic polyolefin or a heterophasic copolymer with a semi-crystalline matrix and a rubber component. This allows for the selection of a compatibilizer that can shift the composition's physical properties based on the end use application, and provide a stronger, miscible blend. 1. A composition comprising:(A) a virgin resin having a first polyolefin;(B) a post-consumer recycled resin having a second polyolefin;(C) a polypropylene-based compatibilizer, wherein the polypropylene-based compatibilizer has a semi-crystalline matrix and a rubber component.2. The composition of claim 1 , wherein a flexural modulus of the composition is between about 155 to about 300 kPSI claim 1 , wherein a notched Izod Impact at 73° F. of the composition is between about 0.4 to about 12 ft-lb/in claim 1 , and wherein flexural modulus/notched Izod Impact values range from about 10 to about 650 kpsi/ft-lb/in.3. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the first polyolefin is polypropylene.4. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the second polyolefin is polyethylene.5. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the first and the second polyolefin are the same polyolefin.6. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the first and the second polyolefin are different polyolefins.7. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the virgin resin is present in an amount of about 20 to about 80 wt. %.8. Se describen composiciones que comprenden desechos reciclados post-consumo (PCR). El PCR se combina con al menos una resina virgen y un compatibilizante en base a propileno que mejora la mezcla entre el PCR y la resina virgen, así como una o más propiedades físicas de la composición. El compatibilizante en base a propileno es una poliolefina termoplástica hecha con reactor o un copolímero heterofásico con una matriz semi-cristalina y un componente de goma. Esto permite la selección de un compatibilizante que puede cambiar las propiedades físicas de la composición en base a la aplicación de uso final y proporcionar una mezcla miscible más fuerte.

The resulting blends showed improved physical properties compared with compositions not containing compatibilizers and/or the impact modifier. The variability in physical properties upon addition of compatibilizer and impact modifier allows for selection of resins to produce blended resins with desired physical properties for a wider range of applications than was previously possible with recycled plastics.
