Disclosed is a vessel type identification method using a coarse-to-fine cascaded deep convolutional neural network. The method adopts a random heuristic selection mechanism to dynamically tune the structure and parameter settings of a depth network, and through coarse-step training and fine-step training, the method may obtain a deep convolutional neural network which may identify vessel types. In the method, the coarse-step training process is identical to the training process of a conventional deep convolutional neural network, and the samples inputted during the training process are vessel images. During the fine-step training process, the deep convolutional neural network is re-trained using the images of commercial ships with the lowest vessel type identification precision derived during the coarse-step training process so as to enhance the overall precision of vessel type identification. The method as disclosed may achieve a better identification precision for different vessel types and thus offers information support to automated vessel type identification and smart vessel sailing.

Disclosed is a vessel type identification method using a coarse-to-fine cascaded deep convolutional neural network. The method adopts a random heuristic selection mechanism to dynamically tune the structure and parameter settings of a depth network, and through coarse-step training and fine-step training, the method may obtain a deep convolutional neural network which may identify vessel types. In the method, the coarse-step training process is identical to the training process of a conventional deep convolutional neural network, and the samples inputted during the training process are vessel images. During the fine-step training process, the deep convolutional neural network is re-trained using the images of commercial ships with the lowest vessel type identification precision derived during the coarse-step training process so as to enhance the overall precision of vessel type identification. The method as disclosed may achieve a better identification precision for different vessel types and thus offers information support to automated vessel type identification and smart vessel sailing.
