A three-dimensional model of an object is employed to aid in navigation among a number of images of the object taken from various viewpoints. In general, an image of an object such as a digital photograph is displayed in a user interface or the like. When a user selects a point within the display that corresponds to a location on the surface of the object, another image may be identified that provides a better view of the object. In order to maintain user orientation to the subject matter while navigating to this destination viewpoint, the display may switch to a model view and a fly-over to the destination viewpoint may be animated using the model. A method of navigating among a number of images taken of an object , the method comprising:displaying a first image of an object, the first image selected from a number of images taken of the object, the first image showing a surface of the object from a first viewpoint;receiving a selection of a location on the surface of the object;selecting a second image of the object from the number of images taken of the object, the second image selected to provide an improved view of the location on the surface of the object from a second viewpoint;rendering an animation of a spatial transition from the first viewpoint to the second viewpoint using a three-dimensional model of the object;displaying the animation; anddisplaying the second image upon reaching the second viewpoint in the animation.2. Verfahren zum Navigieren zwischen einer Anzahl von Bildern, die von einem Objekt aufgenommen wurden, wobei das Verfahren aufweist: Anzeigen eines ersten Bilds eines Objekts, wobei das erste Bild aus einer Anzahl von Bildern ausgewählt wird, die vom Objekt aufgenommen wurden, und das erste Bild eine Oberfläche des Objekts von einem ersten Standpunkt aus zeigt; Empfangen einer Auswahl einer Stelle auf der Oberfläche des Objekts; Auswählen eines zweiten Bilds des Objekts aus der Anzahl von Bildern, die vom Objekt aufgenommen wurden, wobei das zweite Bild so ausgewählt wird, daß es eine verbesserte Ansicht der Stelle auf der Oberfläche des Objekts von einem zweiten Standpunkt aus liefert; Rendern einer Animation eines räumlichen Übergangs vom ersten Standpunkt zum zweiten Standpunkt mit Hilfe eines dreidimensionalen Modells des Objekts; Anzeigen der Animation; und Anzeigen des zweiten Bilds nach Erreichen des zweiten Standpunkts in der Animation.
