Folding s e a t s ; seats combined with tables.-A supplementary folding seat for a motorcar is mounted so that it can be folded up and turned to lie out of the way against the side of the car, and a folding table is combined therewith. The seat 8, Fig. 4, back stays 11, Figs. 2 and 4, and arm-rests 15, are carried by an arm 6 pivoted at 5 on a sliding sleeve 4, which slides along a fixed angular guide-rod 3 as the arm 6 swings out through a right-angle, under the constraint of a link 7, to bring the seat into the position shown in Fig. 4, for use. The guide-rod 3 is secured to a strong stay 1 of the car chassis. The back stays 11 are fitted with jointed guides 13 for slide-rods 14 of the arm-rests. The fronts of the arms are supported by struts 16 secured to a shaft 27. The seat 8 is also hinged on the shaft 27, so that, when it is turned up, a pin 29 on the shaft 27 is engaged at the end of a slot in a ring 28 fixed to the seat, whereby the shaft 27 is turned ...

Folding and collapsible seats. - In folding auxiliary seats for automobiles &c., of the kind having a socket 2 on the seat frame adapted to fit on one of several pins 3 arranged on brackets 4 at different parts of the vehicle so as to enable the occupant to face in different directions, the pin and socket are square in section to prevent rotation, and the pin is provided with a cone 6 fitting in the bracket 4, a threaded portion 7 with a nut 8, and a lug 6 to prevent movement in the bracket. The seat may be fitted with arm-rests and a folding table, as described in Specification 7232/09.

Folding seats.-An auxiliary folding seat for automobiles &c. of the kind adapted to swing in a vertical plane about a pivot when raised from its horizontal position, is mounted so that it may turn down from either of its extreme positions at rightangles to one another when in a vertical plane, so as to face in either of two corresponding directions when lowered. The seat 1 is fitted with a boss 11 mounted so as to rotate on a pivot 7, the end 8 of which is hinged to lugs 4 on a standard 2. The boss 11 is provided with a stop 14 adapted to enter either of two recesses 9 in a collar 9 on the pivot 7 so as to limit the rotation in a vertical plane. A projection 8 on the pivot abuts against a stop 5 on the standard to form a stop when the seat is turned down.
