Di-substituted siloxane solvents for gas capture

The present disclosure provides a method for the separation of a gas constituent from a gaseous mixture. The disclosure also provides polyethylene glycol disubstituted siloxane based solvents for use in the method. These solvents are of use for pre-combustion CO2 capture and are capable of replacing glycol-based solvents while offering operation at a higher temperature region. These solvents are also of use for generation of hydrogen from reformed natural gas or syngas, adjusting CO/H2 ratio for Coal & Biomass to Liquids, removal of CO2 from syngas for coal & biomass to NH3/Fertilizer, natural gas sweetening, and upgrading of landfill and biogas.

The disclosure relates to a membrane testing system for individual evaluation of a plurality of planar membranes subjected to a feed gas on one side and a sweep gas on a second side. The membrane testing system provides a pressurized flow of a feed and sweep gas to each membrane testing cell in a plurality of membrane testing cells while a stream of retentate gas from each membrane testing cell is ported by a retentate multiport valve for sampling or venting, and a stream of permeate gas from each membrane testing cell is ported by a permeate multiport valve for sampling or venting. Back pressure regulators and mass flow controllers act to maintain substantially equivalent gas pressures and flow rates on each side of the planar membrane throughout a sampling cycle. A digital controller may be utilized to position the retentate and permeate multiport valves cyclically, allowing for gas sampling of different membrane cells over an extended period of time.

Sorbent polymer composites and a solution-casting method of making hydrophobic sorbent polymer composites for CO2 adsorption applications are described. The sorbent polymer composites are comprised of a polymer matrix, a dispersed CO2 sorbent, and an optional filler particle for hydrophobicity modification. 1. A method of making a sorbent polymer composite membrane , comprising: mixing a dissolved fluoropolymer and a sorbent in an organic solvent to form a mixture;wherein the fluoropolymer and sorbent comprise at least 5 mass % of the mixture;adding a nonsolvent to the mixture to form a phase inversion coating composition;wherein the mass ratio of nonsolvent to solvent in the coating composition is 0.2 or less;applying a film of the coating composition to a substrate via a casting knife;vaporizing the solvent from the film at a temperature <150° C. from the mixture to increase the ratio of nonsolvent/solvent so that the fluoropolymer precipitates from the solvent; andforming a porous fluoropolymer film with dispersed sorbent.2. The method of further comprising drying the porous fluoropolymer film at an elevated temperature above 30° C. to remove the solvent and nonsolvent.3. The method of wherein the elevated temperature is in the range of 30-100° C.4. The method of any of wherein the mixture comprises at least 7 mass % claim 1 , or at least 8 mass % claim 1 , or 8 to 15 mass % claim 1 , or 8 to 10 mass % fluoropolymer plus sorbent.5.
