Clinometers. - Relates to gradient indicators of the pendulum type for vehicles &c., and comprises means for counteracting the inertia of the pendulum and for minimizing the effect of the vibration of the vehicle &c. Fig. 1 is a side elevation, and Fig. 2 a rear sectional elevation. The pendulum is pivoted at c to a support b depending from the casing a, and comprises a frame h<1>, j, k, h carrying a curved rack d, which operates a pointer c through bevel-gearing f. Pivoted to a pin m are compensating-weights l, which are supported near their upper ends by springs n connected thereto by rods o. These weights counteract the inertia of the pendulum and also act as vanes to damp vibration. Their centre of gravity is preferably in alinement with the centre of oscillation of the pendulum.
