The rear seats of the fire engine face a bulkhead provided with a cavity to stow breathing appts. and other equipment. The front of the cavity is fitted with a handrail (18) mounted on a fold down flap (7) for access to the equipment. The fold down flap serves as a bench seat for the fireman when he fits the breathing appts. The breathing appts. is fitted with a minimum of effort in a confined space, the flap secures the equipment during travel and provides the handgrip.

The roof (2) of a commercial vehicle, particularly of a fire-fighting vehicle, is provided with at least one downwardly pointing trough (3) and/or at least one recess (4) for protectingly accommodating a roof load (5) or a vehicle-specific implement (6) and/or with an upper hollow stacking space which extends along a corner of the roof frame, which space is shielded against the interior by a cover (12) and serves for accommodating cables or the like. The or each trough and/or the or each recess may, for the purpose of ensuring accurate stowing of the load or of the implement, be shaped to match substantially their respective shape. The fire fighting appliance crew cab (2) has front seats (3) for driver and co driver. The adjoining crew seats (4) face the opposite direction to travel, so that the respective seat back rests (6, 7) lay opposite to each other. The free space (8) between the two back rests is utilised to store the breathing apparatus (9) by quick release clamps. The back rests are separate from the actual seat and able to pivot up to the cab roof (10). The back rests may be pivoted by parallelogram arms, to a bracket (13) fixed between the seats. The back rests may be pushed towards the roof on guide rails fixed to the crew cab. Spring cylinders (19) are provided to assist the back rest to reach the lifted position.

The load platform (2) extends horizontally between the front and rear wheel axles and is provided with a vertical side edge (4) formed in one or more sections (4a,4b) which can be pivoted down into a horizontal position to allow access to the load platform (2). Pref. the vertical side edge (4) has a bottom section (4a) pivoted between a horizontal and vertical position and a top section (4b) which is pivoted inwards through 90 deg. relative to the vertical for retaining the hoses (9) etc. stored on the platform (2). The pivoted drive (6) can include a piston-cylinder unit. The drive (6) can be manually activated via a switch at the front seat. It (6) can be automatically operated via a door contact switch. The latter is pref. installed on the door of the crew compartment. ADVANTAGE - Provides easily accessible auxiliary storage. Higher security in traffic.
