The present invention discloses a phosphor material for organic optoelectronic devices. The phosphor is a complex comprising a metal (Ir or Pt) and an aryl-modified beta-diketone ligand. The complexes of this invention are useful to function as an emitter in the emissive layer of an organic light emitting diode, even as the complex is the main component of this layer.

A 9,10-bisphenylphenanthrene derivative has a structure of formula (1): , wherein P1 and P2 are substituted or non-substituted polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), and R is a member selected from the group consisting of H, halo, cyano, trifluoromethyl, amino, C 1 -C 10 alkyl, C 2 -C 10 alkenyl, C 2 -C 10 alkynyl, C 3 -C 20 cycloalkyl, C 3 -C 20 cycloalkenyl, C 1 -C 20 heterocycloalkyl, C 1 -C 20 heterocycloalkenyl, aryl and heteroaryl. The 9,10-bisphenylphenanthrene derivative of the present invention may function as a host emitter to be used in an organic light emitting device with advantages such as higher efficiency, lower operating voltage, higher brightness and higher thermal stability.

Field of the InventionThe disclosure relates to a carbazole serial compound, and in particular relates to an organic light emitting diode utilizing the same.2. Description of the Related ArtThe earliest report of organic electroluminescence was made by Pope et al in 1963, who observed a blue fluorescence from 10-20 μm of crystalline anthracene by applying voltage across opposite sides of a crystal. Thus, the report started a wave of improvements in organic electroluminescence research. However, difficulties of growing large areas of crystals were a challenge. The driving voltage of the devices at the time were too high and the efficiency of organic materials was lower than that of inorganic materials. Because of the disadvantages, the devices were not widely applied due to practical purposes.However, a major development in organic electroluminescence technology was reported in 1987. Tang and VanSlyke of Eastman Kodak Company used vacuum vapor deposition and novel hetero junction techniques to prepare a multilayered device with hole/electron transporting layers. 4,4-(cyclohexane-1,1-diyl)bis(N,N-dip-tolylbenzenamine) (TPAC) was used as the hole transporting layer, and Alq(tris(8-hydroxyquinolinato) aluminum(III)) film with good film-forming properties was used as an electron transporting and emitting layer.
