A method for power quality protection includes measurement of electrical and nonelectrical parameters, calculation of additional electrical and nonelectrical parameters, comparison of the value of the calculated parameters with maximum allowed values from a power quality perspective, activation of protection mechanisms for transitioning to a safe mode or for isolation from the bus. The systems and methods may prevent equipment failures when out of the spec power quality is present in the distribution bus and may protect the distribution bus from imposing power quality problems due to equipment failures. Because most of the sensors in the systems of the present invention are already used for other control and protection purposes, there may be no reliability degradation. Most of the calculations and the control logic may be performed digitally for improved reliability and flexibility to modify algorithms. 1. A power quality protection system comprising:an input for an AC power signal;circuit breakers on each leg of the AC power signal;power topology components for converting the input AC power signal;a plurality of sensors for measuring electrical and non-electrical parameters; andcontrol and processing logic programmed with code for calculating additional electrical and non-electrical parameters, comparing the values of the calculated parameters with maximum allow values, and activating a protection mechanism.2. An electric drive system may include a plurality of heat sensitive components, at least one temperature sensor positioned in or on each of the components and a system controller. The temperature sensors may be interconnected with the system controller to transmit temperature data from their respective heat sensitive components to the system controller. The system controller may be configured to transmit a reduced performance command in the event that a reached-temperature-threshold-limit signal is received from any one or more of the temperature sensors. System shutdown due to over temperature faults may be avoided.

In one embodiment, a client device having a plurality of radios obtains a list of basic service set identifiers (BSSIDs) for a plurality of wireless access points of a wireless network. The client device associates each of the plurality of radios of the client device with a different wireless access point of the wireless network, based on the obtained list of BSSIDs. The client device receives a copy of a data packet from a particular one of the associated wireless access points. Each of the associated wireless access points receives a replicated copy of the data packet to be transmitted towards the client device. The device causes the associated wireless access points to cease further transmission of their copies of the data packet by acknowledging receipt of the data packet to the particular wireless access point. 1. A method comprising:obtaining, by a client device having a plurality of radios, a list of basic service set identifiers (BSSIDs) for a plurality of wireless access points of a wireless network;associating, by the client device, each of the plurality of radios of the client device with a different wireless access point of the wireless network, based on the obtained list of BSSIDs;receiving, at the client device, a copy of a data packet from a particular one of the associated wireless access points, wherein each of the associated wireless access points receives a replicated copy of the data packet to be transmitted towards the client device; andcausing, by the client device, the associated wireless access points to cease further transmission of their copies of the data packet by acknowledging receipt of the data packet to the particular wireless access point.2. Current imbalance may be detected in a 3-phase power system by monitoring current output between two points of a phase signal provided along wire pairs from an inverter to a motor. In some embodiments, each wire of a wire pair leading to the motor from the inverter may be provided with a line current sensor. A comparison of current output from each wire in the wire pair may be performed to determine if a current imbalance is present. In some embodiments, a phase current sensor may be coupled to a phase input of the inverter. Failures in the 3-phase system may be detected by measuring the output from each phase current sensor for imbalanced distribution of power output. In some embodiments, the output from the phase current sensors may be compared to an output of a line current sensor along the same phase for current imbalances or harness failures. 1. The systems and methods may prevent equipment failures when out of the spec power quality is present in the distribution bus and may protect the distribution bus from imposing power quality problems due to equipment failures. Because most of the sensors in the systems of the present invention are already used for other control and protection purposes, there may be no reliability degradation. Most of the calculations and the control logic may be performed digitally for improved reliability and flexibility to modify algorithms.

A system and method is described for using a matched reactance machine power generation system (MRMPGS) to provide a constant-voltage power for an electric distribution system. The system and method include a permanent magnet rotor type machine without a field winding for excitation. This type of machine presents much better reliability, as the excitation of the machine is fixed and achieved by a permanent magnet embedded in the rotor assembly. The voltage regulation is achieved through speed and load coordination that is based on a machine reactance specially selected and calculated to achieve compensation between the external voltage variation and the internal machine voltage drop, resulting in substantial savings in electronics hardware.

A multiple-winding induction machine may be used to obtain a reduced-speed-variation electric drive when using a variable-frequency power distribution system. Each winding may have a different number of poles. The winding with the smallest number of poles may operate the machine at the lowest bus frequency, while the winding with the largest number of poles may operate the machine at the highest bus frequency. In one embodiment, a third winding, with a middle number of poles, may operate the machine at the middle frequency ranges. The speed of the induction machine is a function of the electrical frequency and the number of the winding poles. Therefore, the operating speed range can be reduced by switching from one winding to another. According to the present invention, windings with different numbers of poles can be designed to achieve different reductions in speed variation.

The novel method for DC bus voltage ripple compensation may be implemented by programming a digital signal processor to control the power converters.
