An optoelectronic device (10 figure 2) comprising a charge transfer layer (14 figure 2) including a first semiconductive polymer comprising one or more zwitterions. The zwitterionic substituent may comprise a quaternary amine group and/or a sulfonate group. The polymer may also comprise a fluorene group repeat unit. Also claimed is a semiconductive polymer having an anionic charge centre separated from a cationic centre by more than two atomic (e.g. carbon) centres. Also claimed is a method of manufacturing a semiconductive polymer comprising reacting a conjugated monomer with a zwitterion. The method may comprise a Suzuki, Yamamoto or Stille polymerisation.
