The invention relates to a segment-based method for detecting and controlling the yarn tension of a weaving machine on line. A plurality of special point positions on a tension roll are selected as yarn tension detection points. Grooves are processed at the selective positions of the detection points and piezoelectric sensors are arranged in the grooves. The integral tension control of yarns of the weaving machine is realized by measuring the tensions of the special point positions, which are acted on the yarns in the weaving process. The segment-based method can be used for directly detecting the tension of the single yarn. The detected tension has a small base number so as to reduce the measuring range of the sensors and improve the detection accuracy. The yarn breaking phenomenon which is generated when a certain yarn is broken due to excessively large tension is avoided so that the product quality is guaranteed.
