Containers having improved load-bearing and vacuum-resistance features are provided. In a general embodiment, the present disclosure provides a container () having a shoulder () including four faces forming compound-radiused comers at intersections () with a body of the container. In another embodiment, the present disclosure provides a container having a shoulder () with four faces, at least two of the four faces having a cut-away () with a shape that is substantially U-shaped. The structural features of the present containers advantageously provide for improved compression capacity and vacuum-resistance when compared to similar containers currently on the market. 1. A container comprising:a body;a neck; anda shoulder between the body and the neck, the shoulder comprising four faces arranged in a square pyramid frustum shape, at least two of the four faces comprising a cut-away portion having a shape that is substantially U-shaped.2. The container of claim 1 , wherein the body comprises a shape selected from the group consisting of cylindrical claim 1 , square claim 1 , rectangular claim 1 , ovoid claim 1 , and combinations thereof.3. The container of claim 2 , wherein the body has a shape that is substantially rectangular.4. The container of claim 1 , wherein the body comprises at least one circumferential rib.5. The container of claim 1 , wherein the body comprises at least one interrupted rib.6. This disclosure provides generally container base designs for use in packaging carbonated beverages and new containers that incorporate the base design. It has been found that improved physical and mechanical properties such as good stress crack performance can be achieving while improved light weighting and potential cost savings. The particular base and container designs are generally applicable to carbonated soft drink (CSD) containers, and can be used with containers of any size and with any type of base form such as petaloid or champagne base forms. 1. A lightweight base for a carbonated soft drink (CSD) container , wherein the base is characterized by the following features:a) an area/weight ratio (A/W), wherein A/W is from about 2200 to about 3400 sq mm/g;b) a weight percentage/area percentage ratio (W %/A %), wherein W %/A % is from about 0.90 to about 1.30;c) a first percent (%) crystallinity measured around the gate diameter (within 10 mm), wherein the first percent crystallinity is greater than or about 10%;d) a second percent (%) crystallinity measured at a distance of greater than or about 15 mm from the gate, wherein the second percent crystallinity is at least or about 70% of the sidewall crystallinity;e) a percent (%) trans content measured around the gate diameter (within 10 mm), wherein the percent trans content is at least or about 65%; and/orf) a thickness ratio (thickness at 5 mm from gate dividing by thickness at 10 millimeters from the gate) of less than or about 3.5.2. A lightweight base according to claim 1 , wherein A/W is from about 2600 to 3200 sq mm/g.3. A lightweight base according to claim 1 , wherein W %/A % is from about 1.00 to 1.15.4. A dual constituent container includes a compartment for liquids and an elongate inwardly directed recess open to the container exterior and isolated from the compartment. The container is formed by blow molding, using a mold that incorporates a shaping feature projected longitudinally into the mold cavity. The shaping feature incorporates an arrangement of longitudinal channels having a channel width such that when a thermoplastic preform is expanded into contact with the mold cavity walls and the shaping feature, portions of the expanded preform span the channels and cooperate with the channels to provide passages that accommodate pressurized air to facilitate separation of the expanded preform from the shaping feature. The same portions of the expanded preform can partially protrude into the channels, thus to form longitudinal ribs along the recess which aid in frictionally holding a secondary constituent.
