The mechanochromic effect on the luminescence can be reversible, such as thermally reversible. The mechanochromic effect can be stimulated by pressure such as hand-writing, and can be reversed over a period of minutes to hours at room temperature. The invention also provides methods of making and methods of using the solid-state compositions, such as for sensors and for information displays for use in biological sensing, and in art, design, and consumer products. Compositions of the invention, such as compositions in nanoparticulate form, or contained within a matrix material, can be used in conjunction with fluorescence microscopy to provide information concerning pressures and tensions within and external to living cells, tissues, or organisms.

Section (52) initiates regeneration when the actual soot loading reaches an amount less than the amount at which section (54) mandates regeneration, provided that selected engine operating conditions disclose conditions favorable for regeneration. Section (56) terminates regeneration when soot loading is reduced to some minimum amount or when conditions for continuing regeneration become unfavorable. By burning trapped soot during favorable conditions, the mandatory regeneration is postponed. This can lower the average amount of trapped soot in the CDPF, thereby lowering the average back-pressure on the engine.

Novel low-pressure nanofiltration membrane composites for rejecting organic compounds are prepared by interfacial polymerization on a microporous hollow fiber supporting membrane. The interfacial polymerization reaction is carried out using an essentially monomeric polyamine reactant having at least two amine functional groups per molecule, and an essentially monomeric amine-reactive polyfunctional aromatic or cycloaliphatic acyl halide having at least two acyl halide groups per molecule. The composite can be fabricated by stepwise polymerization reactions with different reactant recipes at each step.

The advantages of the two crystal forms and the preparation method therefor of the present invention are as follows: 1) the process is simple, costs are low, and the yield exceeds 90%; and 2) the crystal forms of the crystal forms I and II have high purity, the crystal shapes thereof are intact, and have excellent fluidity, facilitating preparation, particularly the preparation of a pharmaceutical preparation for preventing and/or treating degenerative diseases of the central nervous system; in addition, the two crystal forms have a better apparent solubility than that of raw materials.
