The invention discloses an AA and BDO esterification process for PBAT production, which comprises the following steps: adding adipic acid, 1, 4-butanediol and a composite catalyst into a reaction kettle, and reacting at 120-160 DEG C for 1-5 hours; the addition amount of the composite catalyst is 0.2-2wt% of the mass of the adipic acid; before reaction, nitrogen is introduced into the reaction kettle, and vacuumizing replacement is performed. By selecting the composite catalyst and controlling the esterification reaction temperature, reaction time and other reaction conditions, AA and BDO have high esterification rate, the PBA prepolymer with high molecular weight (the average molecular weight can reach 4351 at most) can be obtained, and the whole reaction process is low in reaction temperature, mild in reaction condition and simple to operate.
