The road hazard warning device comprises a self-starting vertical axis windmill 11 of the Savonius type, the stator part 13 of which incorporates elements by which the windmill may be secured, with the longitudinal axis of the windmill vertical, to a stationary object or hazard. At least one of the windmill vanes V preferably has a surface area A with enhanced reflectivity, which may be formed from a pellicle composed of a material of high light reflectivity. The windmill stator part preferably comprises a cone attachment part 15 adapted to releasably attach, preferably via a bracket and or lock 25, the device to the vertex of a traffic cone 17 so that the axes of the cone and windmill are aligned. Man-powered marine craft

A marine craft comprises a pair of man-powered piston pump arrangements 15b mounted on a ski-shaped unitary plastic moulding 11. Each pump arrangement comprises a duct open at both ends with a tube (21, Fig 4) slidably engaged within the duct, a flap valve (39, Fig 4) hingedly connected to the rear of the tube and man-operable means 35b arranged to allow the tube to be displaced back and forth along the duct. During use, as the tube is moved forwards the flap valve opens to allow free movement of the tube and as the tube is moved backwards the flap valve closes so that the tube acts as a piston to force fluid in the duct out of the rear end to drive the craft along. The man-operable means may be levers or pedals (47a and 47b, Fig 8).

A waterborne craft

A waterborne craft, primarily for sporting or leisure usage, has a modular wind-powered screw propulsion system, the body or hull of the craft being adapted such that the propulsion wind powered module may be releasibly retained with respect to the craft body or hull. The craft further includes a manually operable drive comprising a free wheel cycle drive. The wind-turbines comprising vanes.

Windmill powered outdoor lighting system

An outdoor lighting system comprises a Savonius type vertical windmill V, an electrodynamic generator 13, and a lamp 23. The rotor winding of the generator is driven by the windmill rotor 19. Current derived at the stator winding serves to energise the lamp. The lamp may supported in the ground by means of a spike. The windmill may be attached directly to the lamp or may be located remotely (see fig. 4). The lamp may comprise a plurality of LEDs. Rechargeable batteries 37 may be provided to store energy generated by the windmill.
