COMPOSITION AND PROCESS FOR PREADHERISING POLYESTER FILAMENTS

The invention relates to a composition and a process for preadherising polyester filaments. This composition consists of a polyepoxide and a tertiary amine having the following general formula: (I) where 1 ? n ? 6, R1 and R2, identical or different, are each alkyl having C1-6, hydroxyalkyl having C1-6, alkylaryl or aryl, and X is H, OH, NH2, NHR3,NR4R5 or R6, where R3, R4, R5 and R6 are each alkyl having C1-6 or aryl groups.

Flame resistant linear polyester(s)

Low flammability linear polyesters are made incorporating 2-30 wt. % of a Br contg. phosphonate (I) into the polyester during or after its mfr. In the formula, R1 is a 1-6C divalent hydrocarbon gp., -SO2-, -OCOO-, -CO-, or -O-; R2 is a 2-8C divalent hydrocarbon gp.; R3 is an opt. halogenated 1-4C alkyl gp.; m is 1-10 and n = 1-50. A pref. cpd. (I) is a polyphenylphosphonate of 2,2-bis 4-(2-hydroxyethoxy)-3,5-dibromophenyl propane (II) in which R1 is -C(CH3)2-, R2 is -CH2-CH2-R3 is phenyl, m=1 and n is pref. >10.Incorporation of (I) into polyesters such as polyethylene terephthalate gives prods. with good flame resistance coupled with good whiteness and resistance to heat and hydrolysis. The prods. are useful for the prodn. of mouldings, films and esp. fibres. The latter are useful in the prodn. of flame retardant textile fabrics.

The composition comprises a polyepoxy and an amine, wherein the amine is a tertiary amine having the formula (I) wherein n is from 1 to 6, R1 and R2 are the same or different and represent an alkyl comprising from 1 to 6 atoms of carbon, a hydroxy alkyl comprising from 1 to 6 atoms of carbon, an alkylaryl or an aryl, and X represents H, OH, NH2, NHR3, NR4R5 or N6, wherein R3, R4, R5 and R6 represent each an alkyl having from 1 to 6 atoms of carbon or an aryl.

Elastic filament threads with low shrinkage at boil - are prepd. from segmented melt-spinnable elastomer by stretching and thermo-fixing

Dimensionally stable threads are prepd. from a segmented elastomer (I) by melt-spinning, stretching, then thermofixing. Elastic threads prepd. by the above process are claimed, having reversible extension of 20-600% (on length of smooth, tension-free thread), tear strength at least 30 cN/tex, and shrinkage at boil less than 10%. Pref. the threads are thermofixed at 90-200 deg.C for 0.01-5 secs.. Threads are thermofixed by satd. steam in a steam pipe. Threads are thermofixed by passing between 2 pairs of Godet wheels and over heated metal surfaces. (I) is polyurethane, polyether-ester, polyester-ester, or polyether-amide. USE/ADVANTAGE - Prepn. of (elastic) flat textile prods. (claimed). Threads do not stick together on winding nor have fibrils stuck together.

PROCEDURE FOR THE PRODUCTION OF A STRECKTEXTURIERTEN YARN.

X-ray contrast filament fibre (I) consists of a polyester (II) contg. 20-70 (wt.)% X-ray contrast agent (II) (II) is PET with intrinsic viscosity 0.60-0.70 dl/g. (II) is Bi2O3, pref. with an average particle size distribution of 0.5-4.0 microns, and is used in an amt. equiv. to 0.01-100% Bi. (I) are oroduced by suspensing Bi2O3 in a vehicle (IV), homogenising, adding the homogeneous suspension to the polymer during (II) prodn. and spinning the (II) melt to (I). (IV) pref. consists of a metal (Ti or Zr) complex with monoalkoxide and ethylene glycol. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are claimed for use in the prodn. of monofilament or multifilament contrast fibres with a total titre of 10-600 dtex and as surgical suture yarn. They have high tensile strength and the best physiological properties in the human body and contain a min. of nontoxic (III).

DRAW-TEXTURISED, BASIC-DYEABLE POLYESTER THREAD

The invention relates to a draw-texturised, basic-dyeable polyester thread having improved strength, which contains a metal sulphonate containing the structural unit < IMG > where M is equal to Na or K and a compound A containing structural units -(CH2)y- and/or -O-(Cx1H2x1O)y1 - where x1 ? 2, y ? 20 and x1y1 ? 20. The basic-dyeable polyester thread contains 1.0 to 5.0 mol % of metal sulphonate units and between 0.5 and 12 % by weight of compound A.
