Flexible Circuit Electrode Array

Номер: US20140115885A1
Принадлежит:

Polymer materials are useful as electrode array bodies for neural stimulation. They are particularly useful for retinal stimulation to create artificial vision, cochlear stimulation to create artificial hearing, or cortical stimulation many purposes. The pressure applied against the retina, or other neural tissue, by an electrode array is critical. Too little pressure causes increased electrical resistance, along with electric field dispersion. Too much pressure may block blood flow. Common flexible circuit fabrication techniques generally require that a flexible circuit electrode array be made flat. Since neural tissue is almost never flat, a flat array will necessarily apply uneven pressure. Further, the edges of a flexible circuit polymer array may be sharp and cut the delicate neural tissue. By applying the right amount of heat to a completed array, a curve can be induced. With a thermoplastic polymer it may be further advantageous to repeatedly heat the flexible circuit in multiple molds, each with a decreasing radius. Further, it is advantageous to add material along the edges. It is further advantageous to provide a fold or twist in the flexible circuit array. Additional material may be added inside and outside the fold to promote a good seal with tissue. 1. A method of making a flexible circuit electrode array comprising:depositing a polymer base layer;depositing metal on the polymer base layer forming a bond pad portion, a cable portion and an electrode array portion;patterning the metal to form a bond pad portion, a cable portion and an electrode array portion;depositing a polymer top layer on the polymer base layer and the metal; andembedding the electrode array portion in a body comprising an electrically insulating material softer than the polymer base layer forming the electrode array portion to have an approximately spherical shape.2. The cochlear prosthesis is attached by a grommet to the cochleostomy that is made from a single piece of biocompatible polymer. The device, designed to achieve optimum neural stimulation by appropriate electrode design, is a significant improvement over commercially available hand-built devices.

A hardware implementation of the Transfer Control Protocol/Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) software stack comprising multiple modular hardware gate level blocks used to implement the discrete functions required for link termination. These modules are designed using low power techniques to minimize the power required to achieve the data processing required by TCP/IP. These hardware blocks are modular so that they can be run at varying clock rates, or have various supply voltages provided thereto, depending on the throughput requirement of each block. Furthermore, at design time of each programmable hardware circuit (PHC) functional circuit blocks (FCBs) used to implement functionality within the PHC are optimized in accordance with predetermined parameters in order to obtain predetermined programmed PHC functionality, such as reduced power consumption or high bandwidth data throughput.

Flexible architecture for processing of large numbers and method therefor

Номер: US20070223687A1
Принадлежит: Elliptic Semiconductor Inc

A method of implementing large number multiplication and exponentiation is provided upon a general purpose microprocessor. These large number multiplication and exponentiation processes being common to cryptography standards such as RSA and AES that typically employ numbers with 512-bits, 1024-bits, and 2048-bits. According to the invention the method establishes the size of the large number processes according to value stored within a control register, this control register and other registers storing data are configured according to this value and accessed as N-bit registers (i.e. as 1024-bit registers for 1024-bit encryption. Additionally, the multiplication and exponentiation processes are handled according to the size of an arithmetic primitive, which is established according to the hardware configuration upon which the process is operating. As such the invention allows for an encryption process to adjust both to the configuration of the host microprocessor and supporting hardware/firmware and dynamically according to degree of security determined from the value stored within the control register.

Flexible circuit electrode array embedded in a cured body

Номер: US9427582B2
Принадлежит: Second Sight Medical Products Inc

Polymer materials are useful as electrode array bodies for neural stimulation. They are particularly useful for retinal stimulation to create artificial vision, cochlear stimulation to create artificial hearing, and cortical stimulation, and many related purposes. It is advantageous that the array edges not contact tissue.
