According to one embodiment, a varnish for a photo alignment film includes a first polyamic acid-based compound, which is a polyamic acid or a polyamic acid ester, in an organic solvent. The first polyamic acid-based compound has terminal skeletons containing no primary amino group. 1. A varnish for a photo alignment film comprising a first polyamic acid-based compound , which is a polyamic acid or a polyamic acid ester , in an organic solvent , wherein the first polyamic acid-based compound has terminal skeletons containing no primary amino group.2. The varnish according to claim 1 , wherein the terminal skeleton comprises an imide skeleton claim 1 , an amide skeleton claim 1 , a urea skeleton claim 1 , a tertiary amino skeleton claim 1 , an azo bond or carboxyl group.4. The varnish according to claim 3 , wherein the terminal skeleton comprises an amic acid skeleton or an amic acid ester skeleton.6. The varnish according to claim 3 , wherein X is an alicyclic group.7. The varnish according to claim 4 , wherein X is an alicyclic group.8. The varnish according to claim 5 , wherein X is an alicyclic group.12. The varnish according to claim 9 , wherein Z is constituted by oxygen claim 9 , nitrogen claim 9 , sulfur claim 9 , carbon claim 9 , hydrogen claim 9 , or a combination of two or more of them claim 9 , and Z has no hydroxyl group claim 9 , no thiol group and no amino group claim 9 , —NH or >NH claim 9 , other than a tertiary amino group.13. The varnish according to claim 10 , wherein Z is constituted by oxygen claim 10 , nitrogen claim 10 , sulfur claim 10 , carbon claim 10 , hydrogen claim 10 , or a combination of two or more of them claim 10 , and Z does no hydroxyl group claim 10 , no thiol group and no amino group claim 10 , —NH or >NH claim 10 , other than a tertiary amino group.14.
