A vacuum cleaner accessory tool comprises a nozzle body, a suction nozzle 18 formed in the nozzle body, an opening 36 in the nozzle body that is adapted to be connected to a suction source remote from the nozzle body, an agitator (40, fig 3) mounted to the nozzle body and positioned adjacent the suction nozzle 18 and a hair removal element 20 associated with the suction nozzle for generating an electrostatic charge to attract hair and other surface debris. The hair removal element 20 preferably comprises an elongated support 24 and a plurality of spaced, flexible nubs or bristles 26 and maybe integrally moulded in one piece. The hair removal element 20 is preferably manufactured from polymeric material such as rubber, nitrile, urethane or thermoplastic elastomers. Also disclosed is a weighted impeller assembly which increase the inertia of the impeller.

A filter assembly for a vacuum cleaner comprises a filter carrier 20 having a pair of opposed side walls each having an arced edge and a pair of opposed end walls narower in width than the side walls, wherein each end wall has a rear edge. The filter carrier has a protrusion 108, 110 extending away from an end wall. Preferably there are two protrusions for mounting the filter carrier to the vacuum cleaner. Rear edges of the side and end walls define a concave air inlet opening and a front side has an air outlet. A filter element 88 is associated with the filter carrier. Preferably the filter element is a pleated high efficiency pleated air (HEPA) filter with a rib to make the pleats shorter and less likely to tear. Preferably a filter receiver 18 is fixed within a recess of a vacuum cleaner and supports the filter carrier 20. Preferably the filter carrier 20 supports a filter cover 22.
