The electricity generator includes a membrane-electrode assembly and separators which have a plurality of flow channels for passing fuel and oxygen and which are placed on both surfaces of the membrane-electrode assembly. The separators include a connecting portion with a straight part between rounded corners for coupling the flow channels at their ends. The connecting portion minimizes turbulence in the flow while maintaining sufficient effective area for contact between the fuel and oxygen with the active area of the membrane-electrode assembly.

Each of the ribs has a column extending in a direction substantially parallel to a side surface of the holder case, and each of the batteries is accommodated between the columns of the ribs. The column has a heat dissipation hole therein extending along the extension direction of the column. An air flow is formed through the heat dissipation hole, and heat generated during a charge and/or discharge operation dissipates through the air flow in the heat dissipation hole. A portion of the columns are separated from each other forming a gap. The heat generated from the batteries also dissipates through this gap.

【課題】運転中止の時，膜−電極アセンブリの損傷を防止して再起動性能を高めることができる直接メタノール型燃料電池システム，およびその運転方法を提供する。 【解決手段】高分子電解質膜，アノード電極１１０ａおよびカソード電極１１０ｂから構成される少なくとも一つの膜−電極アセンブリを具備する燃料電池本体１１０と，燃料電池本体１１０から排出される未反応燃料と水を回収貯蔵する混合タンク１２０と，混合タンク１２０に高濃度燃料を供給する燃料供給装置１３０と，混合タンク１２０に貯蔵される混合燃料を燃料電池本体１１０に供給する燃料注入装置１４０と，入力される運転中止要求の信号に応答して，燃料供給装置１３０を停止させ，混合燃料に含有される燃料の濃度が基準濃度になるまで，混合燃料が燃料電池本体１１０のアノード電極１１０ａ側を経由して循環するように燃料注入装置１４０を作動させる制御装置１６０を含む。 【選択図】図２
