A location of a strike zone is determined based on video images of a batter standing next to home plate captured by a camera. A dense tracking subsystem processes and stores as a dense database every successive one of the image data strips representing location along the route, whereby the dense tracking subsystem provides more accurate location of the vehicle when it retraces some portion of the route than the sparse tracking subsystem. After the sparse and dense databases are established, the location of the vehicle in real time as it retraces the route is performed by the dense tracking subsystem matching current image data strips from the visual image detector with the dense database strips to determine the location of the vehicle, as long as the vehicle stays on the pre-established route. If the vehicles strays from the route, the system senses the deviation and switches to the sparse tracking system to search a broader area in less time than the dense tracking system to attempt to relocate the vehicle along the route, after which the system switches back to the dense tracking subsystem.

This "locks out" certain animals to prevent withdrawal from the feeding area, to enable the operator to dehorn, vaccinate or perform any other procedure, treatment or operation on the animal as necessary. Thereafter, any animals which were previously "locked out" are released by further movement of the release mechanism. Any or all of the retaining members can also be moved to a second access position providing free access to and withdrawal from the feeding area.

A portable system for facilitating inclined shooting of projectile weapons comprises a ranging system, an inclinometer and a processor. The ranging system measures a line-of sight range distance from a vantage point to a target that is elevated or depressed relative to the vantage point, and the inclinometer measures an inclination angle of a line of sight between the vantage point and the target. Based on information from the rangefinder and inclinometer, the processor determines a predicted altitude-compensated inclined shooting (ACIS) trajectory at the line-of sight range distance for a preselected projectile. The ACIS trajectory is based on a bullet path height correction between a bullet path height at a first altitude and a bullet path height at a second altitude, a range distance of the target from the vantage point, and selected meteorological atmospheric information.

Data manipulation apparatus is described for converting raster-scanned data received from a scanner 2 at a first picture element (pel) resolution to a second lower pel resolution for display on a CRT terminal 4. The apparatus includes a scale-changing means 3 which operates on receipt of the image data from the scanner 2 to perform a scalechange operation on the pels, first in the image row direction and then in the image column direction. The row scale-change operation is performed by scale-change projector 5 which functions to replace subgroups of pels in the input image rows by single pels at its output. The image data emerging from projector 5, consolidated in the row direction, is further processed by a second scale-change projector 6 which performs the column scale-changing operation. Again, the size of the sub-groups are determined by the degree of compression required to convert to the lower pel resolution.
