PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a vinylidene chloride copolymer latex which forms, even in a high-humidity atmosphere, a film which is excellent in adhesiveness to a silicone release agent and does not exhibit separation with time by copolymerizing specified amounts of vinylidene chloride and a hydroxyl- containing radical-polymerizable monomer, which gives an OH value to the resultant copolymer, in the presence of a reactive emulsifier. SOLUTION: This copolymer latex is obtained by using 80-93 wt.% (based on the copolymer) vinylidene chloride, a hydroxyl-containing radical- polymerizable monomer in such an amount as to give a hydroxyl value of 5-50 mg/g and 0.5-3.0 wt.% (based on the total amount of monomers) reactive monomer (e.g. sodium alkylallylsulfosuccinate) and can form a film having a water vapor permeability (in terms of a film with a wt. of 5 g/m2) of 100 g/m2.24 hr or lower. The latex is applied to a slightly coated paper in a coating wt. of 25 g/m2 and dried at 80-190°C, and ...
