The invention relates to a device for recording a plant, containing a two-dimensional camera (10a) for recording a two-dimensional image of a plant leaf at a high two-dimensional resolution and a three-dimensional camera (10b) for recording a three-dimensional image of the plant leaf at a high three-dimensional resolution. The two-dimensional camera is, for example, a common high-resolution color camera, and the three-dimensional camera is, for example, a TOF camera. A processor (12) for combining the two-dimensional image and the three-dimensional image produces a three-dimensional representation of results at a higher resolution than the three-dimensional image of the 3-D camera, which representation can comprise, among other things, the edge of a leaf. The three-dimensional representation of results is used to characterize a plant leaf, for example, to calculate the area of the leaf or the orientation of the leaf, or to identify the leaf.
