In particular, the present invention provides methods and compositions for treating chronic pelvic pain syndrome with an agent that targets MCP-1, MIP-1α, or the CCR-2 receptor. 1. A method of diagnosing and treating chronic pelvic pain syndrome comprising:a) detecting the expression of MCP-1 and/or MIP-1α in said sample from a subject, wherein said subject has one or more symptoms of chronic pelvic pain syndrome; andb) treating said subject with an agent that targets MCP-1, MIP-1α, the CCR-2 receptor, wherein said treating is under conditions such that at least one of said symptoms is reduced or eliminated, and wherein said agent is selected from the group consisting of: an indolopiperidine, a spiropiperidine, a 2-substituted indole, a pyrazolone derivative, a 2-substituted benzimidazole, an N,N-dialkylhomopiperazine, a bicyclic pyrrole, a 5-aryl pentadienamide, and a cyclic amine derivative.3.
