A method for producing select water-soluble cannabinoid compounds comprising the step of:providing a yeast cell expressing a heterologous nucleotide sequence, operably linked to a promoter, encoding a UDP-glucosyltransferases (UGT) having glycosylation activity towards a cannabinoid having at least one glycosylation site selected from the group consisting of: cannabidiol (CBD), cannabidiolic acid (CBDA), delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA); cannabigerol (CBG), and cannabigerolic acid (CBGA);introducing said cannabinoid having at least one glycosylation site to said yeast cell; andglycosylating said cannabinoid forming a cannabinoid glycoside.2.
