An engine is provided with a cylinder block and a pump cover cooperating to define a volute chamber for a coolant pump. An impeller is connected to a drive shaft and positioned within the volute chamber. An insert is positioned within the volute chamber directly adjacent to a cutwater along a portion of the outer wall, with the insert positioned between the cutwater and the impeller. A method is provided where, in response to pre-determining a first coolant pump displacement, a first impeller is positioned within a volute chamber defined by a block and a cover. In response to pre-determining a second coolant pump displacement being less than the first displacement, an insert is affixed along the wall adjacent to the cutwater and a second impeller is positioned within the chamber. 1. An engine comprising:a cylinder block and a pump cover cooperating to define a volute chamber for a coolant pump therebetween, the volute chamber defining an outer wall extending circumferentially about a first axis and having a cutwater adjacent to an outlet;an impeller connected to a drive shaft and positioned within the volute chamber for rotation about a second axis, the second axis offset from the first axis; andan insert positioned within the volute chamber directly adjacent to the cutwater and extending along a portion of the outer wall, the insert positioned between the cutwater and the impeller.2. In one example, the latch plate assembly comprises: a first latch plate couplable to a first pipe; and a second latch plate couplable to a second pipe, the first and second latch plates being couplable to the housing, wherein the first and second latch plates are together configured to define a bore at an interface between the first and second latch plates. The bore receives a fastener to couple the first and second latch plates to the housing and wherein the bore has a perimeter, the first latch plate defines a first portion of the bore perimeter and the second latch plate defines a second portion of the bore perimeter, the first and second portion together defining the bore perimeter.

A reservoir as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the level indicator comprises a cut-out in the mouth of the reservoir through which coolant can seep when the reservoir is full.3. A reservoir as claimed in claim 1 , wherein the level indicator is provided by using one of a translucent and a transparent plastic material for the reservoir through which the level of coolant in the reservoir can be viewed.4. The pressure cap 21 is particularly for a degas tank 20 or radiator of a vehicle engine cooling system and has a deformable, pressure-sensitive membrane 28 and an electrical contact switch 27. When a pressure inside the degas tank is equal to or greater than a predetermined pressure limit, e.g. 0.5-0.7 bar, the membrane causes the switch to obtain a first operating state. Otherwise, the switch is in a second operating state. The switch preferably comprises first 29 and second 30 electrically conductive contact surfaces whereby deforming of a resilient portion 31 of the membrane upwards urges the second contact surface into connection with the first, placing the switch in the first state. The cap may include an aperture 33 to introduce air at atmospheric pressure into the cap and a releasable fastener for connection to a neck 20n of the degas tank. An engine system comprising the pressure cap is also claimed whereby a processor preferably compares the operating state of the switch with an expected state based on sensed engine speed and coolant temperature to determine whether there is a coolant leak. A method of preventing a vehicle engine from overheating is also claimed (figure 3).
