Water from the water tank (25) is sprayed through spraying openings (18) by means of pump (31) against the lower side of plate (13) and the ends projecting underneath said plate, of rods (15). Said rods (15) are clamped between pairs of evaporator tube portions (9 and 10) through which pairs cooling liquid flows in opposite directions. The excess water returns to the water tank (25) over a collecting tray (20). By means of a float (40) in the tank (25), a trough (36) hingedly mounted under an outlet (21,22,38) of tray (20) is pivoted in order to divert part of the water to a discharge pipe (29). Fresh water fed through line (34) flows along the plate 13, warming the rods 15 and thus freeing the ice cubes therefrom. The fresh water then passes into the water tank (25). ...
