In a gas phase fluidized bed polymerization process for the production of polyolefin polymers, such as polyethylene polymers or polypropylene polymers, loss of ethylene or propylene accompanying inert gas purging is reduced by passing an ethylene- or propylene-containing purge stream through a vent column to contact a hydrocarbon liquid flowing through the vent column contercurrent to the purge stream whereby unreacted ethylene or propylene in the purge stream portion is dissolved in the hydrocarbon liquid to produce an ethylene- or propylene-enriched liquid stream and an ethylene- or propylene-depleted gaseous stream. The ethylene- or propylene-enriched liquid stream is then recycled to the fluidized bed reactor, while at least part of the ethylene- or propylene-depleted gaseous stream is purged. 1. A gas phase fluidized bed polymerization process for the production of polyethylene polymers or polypropylene polymers , the process comprising:(a1) supplying at least one particulate catalyst to at least one fluidized bed reaction zone using at least one inert carrier gas;(b1) continuously supplying at least one feed stream comprising ethylene or propylene to the at least one fluidized bed reaction zone operating under polymerization conditions effective to produce the polyethylene polymers or polypropylene polymers;(c1) withdrawing from the at least one fluidized bed reaction zone at least a portion of the polyethylene polymers or polypropylene polymers and at least one gaseous recycle stream comprising the at least one inert carrier gas and unreacted ethylene or propylene;(d1) compressing and cooling the at least one gaseous recycle stream to produce a compressed and cooled recycle stream;(e1) returning at least a first portion of the compressed and cooled at least one recycle stream to the fluidized bed reactor;(f1) withdrawing at least a second portion of the compressed and cooled recycle stream through at least one vent column to contact a hydrocarbon liquid ...

A process for deactivating Ziegler-Natta and metallocene catalysts or catalyst systems "such systems are typically used for olefin polymerization". The process includes heating the active catalyst or catalyst system to a temperature sufficient to drive off volatile constituents, and to form complexes and compounds that are non-reactive or less reactive with ambient air than the active catalyst or catalyst system. The process includes steps for safe deactivation including scrubbing to substantially eliminate corrosive compounds, and burning volatile chemicals in a flare. This process essentially eliminates the production of hazardous classification waste from conventional water catalyst deactivation techniques.

Disclosed is a system of making an olefin derivative from a dilute olefin feed. Dilute olefin (1) is sent to an olefin reaction unit (3) to form an olefin derivative product. The olefin derivative product (4) is recovered from the reaction unit while a vent stream (5) is also removed. A portion of the vent steam may be recycled back to the reaction unit via line (9). The vent stream is sent to an olefin separation unit (6), where an olefin stream (7) is recovered and returned to the olefin reaction unit for additional processing. The non-olefin compounds are removed via purge (8). Using appropriate recycle of vent gas within the olefin reaction unit allows the use of a high quality olefin stream in the olefin reaction process with a reduced risk of equipment fouling and catalyst contamination, while maintaining a high product quality.

A process for producing polyethylene polymers including contacting ethylene and at least one C 3 to C 8 alpha-olefin comonomer with a polymerization catalyst on a particulate support in a fluidized bed polymerization reactor under conditions effective to polymerize at least part of the ethylene and comonomer and produce the polyethylene polymers, wherein the support has a d 10 particle size as measured by laser diffraction of at least 18 microns, is provided.

Disclosed is a system of making an olefin derivative from a dilute olefin feed. Dilute olefin (1) is sent to an olefin reaction unit (3) to form an olefin derivative product. The olefin derivative product (4) is recovered from the reaction unit while a vent stream (5) is also removed. A portion of the vent steam may be recycled back to the reaction unit via line (9). The vent stream is sent to an olefin separation unit (6), where an olefin stream (7) is recovered and returned to the olefin reaction unit for additional processing. The non-olefin compounds are removed via purge (8). A gas phase reactor startup process comprising providing a reactor having a vertical cylindrical portion from a distributor plate at the base to a neck at the top and comprising a fluidized bed zone therebetween, wherein above the neck and connected thereto is a frustoconical portion closed at the top, the vertical cylindrical portion having a length from the distributor plate to the neck; providing a bed of polyolefin granules within the fluidized bed zone; wherein the polyolefin granules fill the fluidized bed zone to a resting bed level within a range from 75% to 90% of the length of the vertical cylindrical portion prior to fluidization with cycle gas; flowing cycle gas to fluidize the polyolefin granules and form a fluidized bed having a fluidized bed level greater than the resting bed level; and injecting metallocene catalyst into the fluidized bed zone.
