Methods and apparatus for folding pliable sheet material wherein the sheet material is wound on a mandrel to form a roll which subsequently is stripped off the mandrel and transferred to a pleating station at which successive creases are formed in the roll to produce a pleated packet. During the winding of the sheet material the latter is adhered to the mandrel by the application of negative air pressure to the material via the mandrel. Following the formation of the roll, the application of negative air pressure is discontinued and positive air pressure is applied to the interior of the roll so as to facilitate stripping of the roll from the mandrel. At the pleating station the roll is creased successively to form a plurality of pleats and the direction in which the creasing proceeds is such as to facilitate the escape of air from the roll as it is pleated.

The invention provides a dispersant for an aqueous dispersion of negatively charged or chargeable solid particulates which comprises a compound having an anchoring moiety linked to a polymeric hydrophilic moiety, the anchoring moiety containing at least one basic group and having an overall basicity and the polymeric moiety having a lower affinity for the particulate surface than the anchoring moiety. The anchoring moiety may contain up to three basic groups, preferably dimethylamino or ethylamino groups. This is linked to the polymeric moiety, which is preferably derived from a unsubstituted or substituted acrylamide monomer unit, preferably by a sulfur atom. The dispersant can reduce the viscosity of an aqueous dispersion of negatively charged or chargeable solid particulates, whilst maintaining the pH at about 9 or below, and can reduce the tendency of the resulting dispersion to form a gel or a yield stress material. The dispersant facilitates the processing of the resulting compositions in manufacturing operations and it may be used, for example, as a component of a coating material, a ceramic, paint, refractory material, filler or in an inkjet recording paper or film. Additionally, the dispersant can allow the use of higher concentrations of solid particulates and enable control of the yield stress, as some yield is often beneficial in helping prevent or reduce sedimentation.

The invention relates to an apron conveyor whose mutually overlapping members, consisting of plates with side walls which connect vertically, are arranged on link chains and are partitioned in a way matching the chain divisions. The slats are provided in their overlap area on their oblique edges on one hand with a limb which points upwards away from the plane of the slat and, on the other hand, with an arched recess which covers the raised limb of the adjacent slat. According to the invention, webs connected to the side walls or formed by them are provided along the length of the side walls. These webs connect the chain links laterally. This arrangement allows the use of standardised link chains of which only one in each link pair must be provided with two holes (in particular threaded holes) for connection of the members to the webs. The chains can be fitted at the outer edge of the slats as far from each other as possible, so that the chains shift towards the immediate vicinity of the rolls which support the slat conveyor and the members are subjected to a minimum of bending strain. It is also possible to arrange the chain wheels in the immediate vicinity of the shaft bearings, so that the bending strain on the chain wheel shaft can also be kept low. In a further embodiment, axial bolt holders mounted on the webs to the side walls and facing the chain links can, together with the chain links, be connected to the webs.

The chassis hull (110) stores an energy reservoir (113), such as a battery or fuel tank, and the final drives (120) include at least a gear box (124) and drive axle (126). Different final drives (120) may be provided for different torque levels, speed levels, energy sources, and or other specifications, and the final drives (120) may be swapped based on mission requirements. Other components of the modular tracked vehicle (100) may be interchangeable, as well. The technique may be provided, for example, as a modular tracked vehicle (100), a platform for a modular tracked vehicle (100), and/or as a method for use with a modular tracked vehicle (100).
