A mounting apparatus for a return roller is provided. A load zone area of a conveyor system which includes a continuous belt which carries bulk materials such as stone, ore, grain, etc. to a discharge point where the material leaves the belt as the belt wraps around a head pulley and returns along the under side of the conveyor system to a tail pulley which brings the belt back to a point which it can be loaded again. The load zone area typically has multiple support rollers closely spaced together to minimize the effect of the material impacting the belt which deflects the belt downward, thus creating a gap between the belt and the skirt seal causing leakage. The existing rollers normally have three rollers which form a "U" shape trough for the belt the two "wing" rollers are removed from the existing troughing roller assembly and replaced by a steel adapter to which a low friction rail may be attached longitudinally to the direction the belt moves, thus reducing the downward deflection of the belt where the material being loaded on to the belt is impacting the belt, and avoiding the gaps between the belt and the skirt seals.

A conveyor assembly which includes a continuous belt for carrying bulk material such as stone, ore, grain etc. is provided. The conveyor transports the material to a discharge point where the material is discharged from the belt as the belt wraps around a head pulley. The belt is troughed between the area that the material is loaded onto the belt and the head pulley. A plurality of belt supports support the belt between the area where the material is loaded onto the belt and the head pulley. Each belt support includes a central roller for providing generally frictionless rolling support for the central portion of the belt. Each belt support further includes a pair of wing supports for supporting the troughing side of the belt. Each wing support includes a roller adjacent the central roller and a pair of slider bars supporting the marginal edges of the belt. The slider bars support the marginal edges of the belt between successive belt supports to retain the belt in engagement with a skirt to prevent spillage of material.

A conveyor belt assembly is provided with a cleated type conveyor belt or other belt having raised projections on its carrying surface, and a cleaning mechanism adapted to clean the belt. The cleaning mechanism has a rotatable shaft and a plurality of flexible disks mounted on the shaft that engage the surface of the conveyor belt to clean the belt as the belt moves past the cleaning mechanism. Each disk has a plurality of flexible fingers that extend outwardly from the perimeter of the disk. The fingers engage around the cleats or raised projections on the moving conveyor belt to remove residual material adhering to the belt.

An apparatus for training a conveyor belt (30) is formed by a training roller (40) enclosing a concentric shaft (60) around which it is rotatably mounted. The roller (40) is also pivotable relative to the shaft (60) about a pivot axis that is transverse to the longitudinal axis of the shaft (60). This means that when the belt (30) is properly aligned, the force of the belt (30) against the roller (40) is equally distributed on both sides of the pivot axis of the roller (40). However, when the belt (30) becomes misaligned, the roller (40) pivots in response to the unequal force of the belt (30) on opposite sides of the pivot axis to realign the belt (30). The roller (40) is coupled to the shaft (60) by a pair of friction rings (80) so that reversing the belt (30) rotates the shaft (60) between first and second positions, thereby rotating the pivot axis of the roller (40) so that the roller (40) continues to train the belt (30).
