An integrated ophthalmic illumination method and system having two integrated light sources, a lamp and an infra-red (IR) diode laser. The lamp light source may be used to produce either monochromatic or color images, as necessary, at high resolution. In a preferred embodiment, color images are provided using an RGBT (red-green-blue-transparent) filter wheel. The filter wheel is divided into four sections or arc sections around the periphery of the wheel. Three of the four partitioned sections are larger and equal sections that comprise the three optical R, G and B filter sections. The fourth section is a transparent, or empty, narrow section that is used for transferring the full original content of the white beam when a monochromatic or chromatic image is desired. The RGBT wheel rotates at a speed of one third of the frame rate of a CCD camera, producing a sequence of definite R, G and B spectral light bursts. Transcleral opthalmic illumination method and system

A method and apparatus for illuminating the interior of the eye through the sclera without any contact to the eye. The apparatus contains a lamp element and optics that focus the light on the eye sclera. One or more fiber optics bundles may be used to convey the light from the light source close to the illuminated eye, ending with condensing optical elements. Alternatively, light could be conveyed by sharing the optics of an imaging system. It is useful for observing or imaging the interior of the eye, the retina, or the choroid. The observation or the imaging of the interior of the eye, the retina, or the choroid by applying the disclosed illumination method can be done in conjunction with any system that includes optics for that purpose, e.g., fundus cameras and ophthalmoscopes, without using those systems' illumination elements.

Illumination method and system for obtaining color images by transcleral ophthalmic illumination

An illumination system for fundus imaging apparatus employing transcleral illumination of the interior of the eye. Color images of the interior of the eye are obtained by illuminating the sclera successively with red, yellow and green light. Those images are then treated as red, green and blue images by a post processing unit, which combines them to give a color image. This is useful for observing or imaging the interior of the eye, the retina, or the choroid. The observation or the imaging of the interior of the eye, the retina, or the choroid by applying the disclosed illumination method can be performed in conjunction with any system that includes optics for that purpose.

There is disclosed a method of removing underwater gas bubbles from underwater devices such as cameras, optical lenses, or domes comprising acquiring a camera image or a sequence of images, applying a computer vision algorithm for detecting bubbles that stick to underwater cameras, optical lenses or domes and vibrating a motor for a time period sufficient to remove the majority of the bubbles, and optionally repeating vibrating the motor until complete removal or dismissal of bubbles is achieved. 1. A method of dismissing or removing gas bubbles that stick to an underwater surface associated with an underwater acquisition device , wherein the method comprises using an electro-mechanical mechanism to:generate mechanical vibrations in the surface associated with the underwater acquisition device, orgenerate mechanical vibrations in an assembly coupled to the underwater acquisition device,said mechanical vibrations enabling dismissing or removing at least part of said gas bubbles.2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the electro-mechanical mechanism is directly or indirectly coupled to claim 1 , or in a vicinity of the underwater acquisition device.3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the electro-mechanical mechanism includes a vibrating unbalanced DC motor claim 1 , or a piezoelectric transducer claim 1 , or a solenoid claim 1 , or an ultrasonic device.4.
