Fuel regulator for diesel engines

Номер: GB0000823652A
Принадлежит:

... 823,652. Resgulating. ESSO RESEARCH & ENGINEERING CO. June 20, 1958 [Oct. 18, 1957], No. 32594/57. Class 7(6) The maximum position of the control rod J of a fuel injection pump is controlled in accordance with the density of the fuel by a float F which adjusts a stop G. The fuel is fed from a tank through a pipe A into a float chamber C in which an overflow D maintains a constant level. The float F, which has a specific gravity of 0.8 to 0.9, is connected to an adjustable wedge G which slides over a stationary wedge K initially adjusted by a screw L. To prevent the rod J reacting back on float F, the opposed faces of the wedges G, K, may be serrated and kept apart by light springs for easy movement over one another until acted up by the rod J when the serrations prevent the wedge G sliding along wedge K. In a modification the float F actuates a cam which adjusts a sliding rod forming the stop for the control rod J.

Purification of ethers of alkylene glycols by distillation

Номер: GB0000795866A
Принадлежит:

Ethers of alkylene glycols, prepared by reacting an alkylene oxide with a monohydric alcohol are freed from unetherified glycol by-products of the reaction by submitting the crude reaction product to fractional distillation in the presence of an aromatic or terpenic hydrocarbon capable of forming with the glycol an azeotrope having a boiling point not less than 20 DEG C. away from the boiling point of the ether. Examples are given wherein the azeotrope distils over first, and is followed by the purified ether. The amount of the hydrocarbon added to the reaction product should preferably be approximately equal to the amount of alkylene glycol present. Pseudocumene, naphthalene or terpinolene may be used for the purification of diethylene glycol monoethyl ether. In the case of the monomethyl ether, the auxiliary liquid may be pseudocumene, or butyl benzene. In the separation of diethylene glycol from the triethylene glycol monoethers, suitable azeotropeformers are methyl naphthalene and 1.3.5 ...

Improved sweetening process for petroleum distillates

Номер: GB0000768032A
Принадлежит:

Sour petroleum distillates are sweetened by contacting, in a first zone, with a cupric salt and an adsorbent clay, and contacting the distillates in a second zone with more adsorbent clay, and continuously or periodically transferring at least a portion of the clay from the second zone to the first zone. 0.2-35 per cent by weight of the cupric salt of the weight of the clay may be used. Clays referred to are montmorillonite clays such as fuller's earth, natural bleaching earths, bentonite, magnesite and synthetic adsorbent clays such as dried silica gel. The natural adsorbents may be activated by heating to 500-900 DEG F. or by treatment with dilute acids such as sulphuric or hydrochloric acids. The distillate may be percolated through a fixed bed of clay, or a fluidized bed of a slurry of the distillate and clay may be used. The cupric salt specified is cupric chloride. If the sweetening is effected in the absence of oxygen, the cupric salt is preferably in aqueous solution, the solution ...

Refining mineral oils

Номер: GB0000759156A
Принадлежит:

A sweetening process comprises sweetening a virgin petroleum fraction with air in the presence of a petroleum fraction containing olefin unsaturates. The fraction containing unsaturates is one obtained by thermally or catalytically cracking a petroleum fraction. The virgin fraction may be an extract from solvent extraction of kerosine e.g. with sulphur dioxide, and may be caustic alkali washed. The air sweetening is preferably conducted in the presence of an accelerator, which may be an oxidation inhibitor such as disec. butyl p phenylene diamine, and is carried out either by blowing with air or by standing with exposure to air. The olefinic fraction may consist in whole or in part of a sour fraction which readily air sweetens, or a sour virging naphtha which easily sweetens may be added to the kerosine extract. It is preferred to use betwen 9 and 100 per cent by volume of the olefinic fraction based on the virgin fraction.

Classes 7(2) and 7(6) A vaporized naphtha and air in introduced into the air intake of a diesel engine, the naphtha which is introduced into the air intake being present in amount insufficient to burn under the conditions pertaining in the combustion chamber up to the time that naphtha is injected directly into the combustion chamber. The naphtha may be a virgin naphtha or a topped virgin naphtha. It is preferred that the naphtha is a light virgin naphtha. A table is provided in the Specification giving a suitable range and a preferred range of the properties of the naphtha. The amount of vaporized naphtha introduced into the air intake should not exceed 50% of the total fuel and is preferably from 15 to 35% of the total fuel. Light virgin naphtha has a low cetane number and it is therefore desirable to start injection between 35 to ...
