The technology provides a waveguide display having a compact projection light engine and a diffractive waveguide. The diffractive waveguide includes input diffraction gratings with rolled k-vectors. The projection light engine provides collimating light to a projected exit pupil external to the diffractive waveguide. The projection light engine components may include a light (or illuminating) source, microdisplay, lenticular screen, doublet, polarizing beam splitter (PBS), clean-up polarizer, fold mirror, curved reflector and quarter waveplate. A method of manufacturing a diffractive waveguide includes providing input gratings with rolled k-vectors. Rays of light are diffracted by, and passed through, a master hologram to form input diffraction gratings of a copy substrate. A second copy substrate may likewise be formed with a different master hologram. Multiple copy substrates may be assembled to form a multi-layer diffractive waveguide (or multiple diffractive waveguides) having input diffraction gratings with increased diffraction efficiency and angular bandwidth.

An input-coupler of an optical waveguide includes one or more Bragg polarization gratings for coupling light corresponding to the image in two different directions into the optical waveguide. The input-coupler splits the FOV of the image coupled into the optical waveguide into first and second portions by diffracting a portion of the light corresponding to the image in a first direction toward a first intermediate component, and diffracting a portion of the light corresponding to the image in a second direction toward a second intermediate component. An output-coupler of the waveguide combines the light corresponding to the first and second portions of the FOV, and couples the light corresponding to the combined first and second portions of the FOV out of the optical waveguide so that the light corresponding to the image and the combined first and second portions of the FOV is output from the optical waveguide. The input-coupler splitting the light to two or more intermediate components provides an increased FOV.

A method of integrating a relay bank for use with a pool or spa control system , comprising the steps of:establishing electrical connection between the relay bank and a control panel of the pool or spa control system;discovering the relay bank by a processor of the control panel; andassigning the relay bank a network address from the control panel upon discovery of the relay bank.2. It is therefore desirable that the buoy separate quickly from the turret of the FPSO vessel during a disconnect operation. A buoy turret cage is provided with a certain degree of porosity that allows a flow of seawater from the outside of the receptor to the inner surface of the receptor. Introducing water in this way relieves the suction forces and allows for a quicker separation of the buoy from the turret of the FPSO vessel, minimizing the time during which an uncontrolled collision between the buoy and the FPSO vessel is most likely. Filling a portion of the turret above the mooring buoy with water prior to releasing the buoy also decreases the separation time.

An apparatus for use in replicating an image associated with an input-pupil to an output-pupil includes a planar optical waveguide including a bulk-substrate, and also including an input-coupler, an intermediate-component and an output-coupler. The input-coupler couples light corresponding to the image into the bulk-substrate and towards the intermediate-component. The intermediate-component performs horizontal or vertical pupil expansion and directs the light corresponding to the image towards the output-coupler. The output-coupler performs the other one of horizontal or vertical pupil expansion and couples light corresponding to the image, which travels from the input-coupler to the output-coupler, out of the waveguide. The apparatus further includes an adjacent planar optical component to provide a more uniform intensity distribution compared to if the adjacent planar optical component were absent.

A color correction mask programmatically generated in software on an HMD device is applied to a gaze region on a display field of view (FOV) on a head-mounted display (HMD) device to optimize system resources while rendering a display. Eye monitoring sensors are utilized to track movement of a user's eyes while the user operates the HMD device to determine a gaze position of the user's eyes on the display FOV. Using the determined gaze position, a dynamic foveal gaze region is sized around the gaze position so that the foveal portion of the display FOV is color-corrected, that is, color non-uniformities are reduced or eliminated. In other implementations, a gaze-based weighting mode is implemented in which measurements of the user's full eye or eye orbit are utilized to color correct a larger surface area of the display FOV relative to the foveal color correction mode.

A permanent magnet fault tolerant generator 32 is driven by a variable speed shaft 34 to create AC power at terminals 36, converted at 40 to DC power before being applied to a load 38. The converter 40 is a bidirectional device which rectifies AC to DC and also acts as an inverter to synthesise AC from the DC. This synthesised AC waveform is imposed on the terminals 36 to maintain a constant magnitude generator output voltage, regardless of the speed of the shaft 34, and thus regardless of the EMF of the generator. This results in reactive currents flowing between the generator 32 and the converter 40, but allows the generator design have a reduced current rating, resulting in improved generator size and weight.

An FET has a T-shaped gate. The FET has a halo diffusion self-aligned to the bottom portion of the T and an extension diffusion self aligned to the top portion. The halo is thereby separated from the extension implant, and this provides significant advantages. The top and bottom portions of the T-shaped gate can be formed of layers of two different materials, such as germanium and silicon. The two layers are patterned together. Then exposed edges of the bottom layer are selectively chemically reacted and the reaction products are etched away to provide the notch. In another embodiment, the gate is formed of a single gate conductor. A metal is conformally deposited along sidewalls, recess etched to expose a top portion of the sidewalls, and heated to form silicide along bottom portions. The silicide is etched to provide the notch.

The membrane sheets, permeate carrier and the adhesive contribute to the thickness of the edges of the membrane leaf and the diameter at the ends of the element. A reduced thickness of the edges of the permeate carrier may reduce the diameter at the ends of an element. Another permeate carrier sheet may also be used that is distanced from at least one edge of the membrane sheet so the permeate carrier sheet does not contribute towards the increased diameter at the ends of the element.
