A cohesive polymer matrix comprising a matrix a matrix polymer and a coated particulate filler dispersed therein, characterised in that the matrix polymer is an acrylic polymer, and the filler is coated at least in part with a composition comprising an organic coating polymer of number average molecular weight of up to 300,000, which contains an acidic group (or precursor thereof) and an unsaturated group optionally linked to the matrix acrylic polymer, and a process for its production, and precursors thereof for use in the process.

FIXING AGENT COMPOSITION, ORGANIC POLYMER FOR FIXING AGENT, COATED BASE AND THEIR PRODUCTION

PURPOSE: To obtain a fixing agent for improving the adaptability of a packing material and an org. polymer by compounding the org. polymer having a specific number average mol.wt., and having a condensation group contg. an acid group and silicon with the fixing agent. CONSTITUTION: This fixing agent compsn. is prepd. by compounding the org. polymer having the number average mol.wt. up to 300,000 and the condensable group contg. the acid group (or its precursor) and the silicon. A polycondensate, oligomer and oligocondensate are incorporated into the range of the polymer. The mol.wt. of the polymer can be as lower as 750 or, in some cases, 200, and the number of the iterative units can be small enough for the polymer being a non-particulate fluid, like liquid. The precursor of the acidic group includes all the groups which may be converted to the free acid group under coating conditions, for example, salt and anhydride. Specific examples of coupling modifiers are β-carboxyl ethylacrylate and 5-carboxy pentyl maleimide.

PURPOSE: To improve the physical characteristics of a resulted bonded polymer matrix and to hold an excellent heat resistance. by dispersing a granular packing material coated with a specific org. coating polymer into a matrix polymer. CONSTITUTION: This bonded polymer matrix is formed of the matrix polymer and the coated granular packing material dispersed into this matrix polymer. The matrix polymer is an acrylic polymer and the packing material is at least partly coated with the compsn. contg. the org. coating polymer up to 300,000 in number average mol.wt. which may be bonded to the matrix acrylic polymer and has the acidic group (or its precursor) and unsatd. bond. A polymeric dispersant having a low Tg polymer component, e.g. polybutadiene, and a pendant silylated group with hydrolysable groups capable of associating with and dispersing finely divided inorganic fillers. Curable compositions containing the polymeric dispersant can be cured into composite materials having improved resistance to stress induced by thermal cycling.

The use of a material of empirical composition MgO (CO₂) b (H₂O) c , where b is any value in the range 0.5 to 1.1 and c is any value in the range 0 to 2, and which have an amor­ phous content of at least 75% by weight, as a filler and/or a fire retardant for a solid or fluid matrix, a solid or fluid matrix (in particular a plastics matrix) containing such a material as dispersed particles, the materials in defined particulate mor­ phologies, some of the materials per se and a process for their preparation.

Filler and polymer composition containing filler

A coated particulate filler to the surface of which there is bound an acid group-containing organic polymer which also comprises a nitrogen-containing group capable of reacting with an organic polymeric material. The acidic group may be a carboxylic acid group and the nitrogen-containing group may be an amide group or an amine group, especially a alkylamine or a polyakylamine derivative of an amine group. The organic polymeric material may contain ethylenically unsaturated groups or halogen groups, and reaction may take place during cross-linking of the organic polymeric material. Compositions comprising coated particulate filler and organic polymeric material have improved tensile modulus.
