A method for treating a fabric for ultraviolet radiation protection, enhanced resistance to degradation, and enhanced resistance to fire is disclosed which comprises the steps of adding zinc oxide nanoparticles to a solution of 3-glycidyloxypropyl-trimethoxysilane, placing a fabric in the mixture of zinc oxide particles and 3-glycidyloxypropyl-trimethoxysilane, curing the fabric, and washing the fabric. A synthesis process for making a benzoxazine compound containing at least one benzoxazine unit from aromatic amine containing at least one primary amino group, at least one phenolic compound with at least one ortho-hydrogen, and alkyl formcel. In one embodiment, the aromatic amine is reacted with alkyl formcel to generate an alkoxymethyl intermediate compound. Subsequently, the intermediate compound is reacted with a phenol to generate the benzoxazine compound. In another embodiment, the benzoxazine compound is formed by reacting aromatic amine with alkyl formcel and phenol in one reaction step. Also disclosed is a method for isolating the alkoxymethyl compound formed by reacting aromatic amine with alkyl formcel. The isolated alkoxymethyl compound is useful as a reactant in a subsequent reaction. 1. A process for making one or more benzoxazine compound(s) comprising reacting an aromatic amine comprising at least one primary amino group with alkyl formcel and at least one phenolic compound , which comprises at least one hydrogen at an ortho position relative to —OH group.4. A synthesis process for making a benzoxazine compound containing at least one benzoxazine unit from aromatic amine containing at least one primary amino group, at least one phenolic compound with at least one ortho-hydrogen, and alkyl formcel. In one embodiment, the aromatic amine is reacted with alkyl formcel to generate an alkoxymethyl intermediate compound. Subsequently, the intermediate compound is reacted with a phenol to generate the benzoxazine compound. In another embodiment, the benzoxazine compound is formed by reacting aromatic amine with alkyl formcel and phenol in one reaction step. Also disclosed is a method for isolating the alkoxymethyl compound formed by reacting aromatic amine with alkyl formcel. The isolated alkoxymethyl compound is useful as a reactant in a subsequent reaction.

Disclosed are compositions, kits, and methods for inducing an immune response against an infection or a disease. The compositions typically include biodegradable particles having an average effective diameter that such that the biodegradable particles are phagocytosed by antigen presenting cells when the biodegradable particles are administered to a subject in need thereof. Polymer compositions for making a stabilized polymeric articles that are resistant to discoloration upon exposure to UV-C light having: (i) an organic polymeric material; and (ii) a hindered phenol, organic phosphite, or a combination thereof, with the provisos that: (a) the OH group on the aromatic ring of the hindered phenol is flanked by two tertiary hydrocarbyl groups, and (b) the organic phosphite does not have any —OAr group linked directly to the P atom of the phosphite, wherein Ar represents an unsubstituted or substituted aryl group, are provided herein. Reduced discoloration is associated with the use of specific hindered phenols and the organic phosphites compared to other hindered phenols and organic phosphites, even in the absence of other polymer additives including UV absorbers, hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS), metal oxides and/or barium salts. Methods of reducing discoloration of an organic polymeric material upon exposure to UV-C light are also provided, wherein such methods include the step of adding to the organic polymeric material a stabilizing amount of hindered phenol, organic phosphite, or a combination thereof. 1. Polymer compositions for making stabilized polymeric articles that are resistant to at least one deleterious effect of discoloration, cracking, or crazing upon exposure to UV-C (190-280 nm) light are provided herein, wherein the polymer compositions include: (i) an organic polymeric material; and (ii) a stabilizer composition comprising: an antioxidant selected from the group consisting of hindered phenols, phosphites and phosphonites, and mixtures thereof; and a light stabilizer selected from the group consisting of hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS), UV absorbers (UVA), hindered benzoates, and mixtures thereof, even where barium compounds (such as barium salts) are absent from the stabilizer composition, and with the proviso that the HALS is not bis(2,2,6,6,-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl) sebacate (TINUVIN™ 770) alone. The creation of novel halloysite-based compositions is disclosed. In one embodiment, the hollow clay nanotubes of halloysite are loaded with nanoscale zerovalent iron particles. The resulting composition provides an effective manner of remediating chlorinated hydrocarbons. In another embodiment, the hollow clay nanotubes of halloysite are imbibed with dispersants such as DOSS and Tween 80 surfactants. The resulting composition stabilizes oil-in-water emulsions and subsequently releases the surfactants, thereby reducing interfacial tension significantly, which allows much smaller droplets to form and thus provides for more effective oil remediation. 1. A synthesis process for making a benzoxazine compound containing at least one benzoxazine unit from aromatic amine containing at least one primary amino group, at least one phenolic compound with at least one ortho-hydrogen, and alkyl formcel. In one embodiment, the aromatic amine is reacted with alkyl formcel to generate an alkoxymethyl intermediate compound. Subsequently, the intermediate compound is reacted with a phenol to generate the benzoxazine compound. In another embodiment, the benzoxazine compound is formed by reacting aromatic amine with alkyl formcel and phenol in one reaction step. Also disclosed is a method for isolating the alkoxymethyl compound formed by reacting aromatic amine with alkyl formcel. Disclosed are compositions, kits, and methods for inducing an immune response against an infection or a disease. The compositions typically include biodegradable particles having an average effective diameter of 0.5 - 20 µm, and optionally the compositions include one or more of an adjuvant, an apoptosis inhibitor, and an antigen. The compositions, kits, and methods may be utilized to induce a cell-mediated response, such as a T-helper cell response, and/or a humoral response against a pathogen or a disease. In some embodiments, the compositions, kits, and methods may be utilized to induce preferentially a Th1 response versus other types of immune responses such as a Th2 response.

Also disclosed is a method for isolating the alkoxymethyl compound formed by reacting aromatic amine with alkyl formcel. It has been now surprisingly discovered after extensive research that 2-halo-4,6-bisaryl-1,3,5-triazine can be prepared with unprecedented selectivity, efficiency, mild conditions, and in high yield by the reaction of cyanuric halide with aromatics in the presence of at least one Lewis acid and at least one reaction promoter. This reaction is also unprecedently general as a variety of aromatics can be used to produce a wide selection of 2-halo-4,6-bisaryl-1,3,5-triazines. The novel approach includes the use of the reaction promoters in combination with at least one Lewis acid under certain reaction conditions to promote the formation of 2-halo-4,6-bisaryl-1,3,5-triazine compounds from cyanuric halide. Preferably, the Lewis acids and reaction promoters are combined to form a complex. 2-Halo-4,6-bisaryl-1,3,5-triazines are key intermediates for making 2-(2-oxyaryl)-4,6-bisaryl-1,3,5-triazine class of UV absorbers.

Also disclosed is a method for isolating the alkoxymethyl compound formed by reacting aromatic amine with alkyl formcel. The isolated alkoxymethyl compound is useful as a reactant in a subsequent reaction.

Polymer compositions for making stabilized polymeric articles that are resistant to at least one deleterious effect of discoloration, cracking, or crazing upon exposure to UV- C (190-280 nm) light are provided herein, wherein the polymer compositions include: (i) an organic polymeric material; and (ii) a stabilizer composition comprising: an antioxidant selected from the group consisting of hindered phenols, phosphites and phosphonites, and mixtures thereof; and a light stabilizer selected from the group consisting of hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS), UV absorbers (UVA), hindered benzoates, and mixtures thereof, even where barium compounds (such as barium salts) are absent from the stabilizer composition, and with the proviso that the HALS is not bis(2,2,6,6,-tetramethyl-4-piperidyl) sebacate (TINUVIN™ 770) alone. At least one of reduced discoloration, cracking, or crazing upon exposure to UV-C light is associated with the use of the light stabilizer in combination with the antioxidant compared to the antioxidant in the absence of the light stabilizer. Methods of stabilizing organic polymeric materials against the deleterious effects of UV-C light by adding to the organic polymeric materials the antioxidant and the light stabilizer, are also provided.
