An oral care formulation includes an aqueous mixture of a water-soluble silver salt, a fluoride reagent, and a water-soluble polymer, the aqueous mixture having a viscosity ranging from about 1000 cPs to about 35,000 cPs. A method of using a fluoride and silver containing formulation, such as silver diamine fluoride, in dental applications includes providing a substrate having the formulation in a solid or semi-solid state on a portion of the substrate, positioning the substrate adjacent to dental areas, and allowing the portion of the substrate with the formulation to contact the dental areas. A disposable applicator for applying the formulation is also disclosed.

Film-type power resistor

A film-type power resistor consists of a ceramic wafer or washer having a central opening, one side of such washer being printed at its outer and inner edges with generally annular traces of termination metal. An electrically resistive film is printed on such one side over all portions of, and between, the termination metal, excepting for predetermined adjacent end portions which are connected to radially outwardly extending terminal lugs or leads. In one embodiment, the metal traces are continuous, whereas in another embodiment they are interrupted in order to create series-related resistor portions. The washer (and its associated films) are mounted over a metal base and are embedded in a thermosetting synthetic resin, the base having an upwardly extending central post which passes through the opening in the washer to the upper surface of the resin. In accordance with the method, the planar surface of a ceramic substrate is first printed with termination film traces, following which such traces are overprinted with electrically resistive film. The ceramic (with its associated coatings) is then fired in order to cure the resistive film. Thereafter, the entire outer surface of the resistive film is uniformly abraded by means of a jet of abrasive particles, the abrading continuing in a uniform manner until the resistive film is within the required tolerance. During the abrading step, the terminal regions of the terminal film traces are masked. Thereafter, terminal lugs or leads are connected to such terminal regions.

Low-resistance, high-power resistor having a tight resistance tolerance despite variations in the circuit connections to the contacts

A tight-tolerance, low-resistance, high-power chip resistor for mounting on a circuit board (14) in parallel and adjacent relationship to such board. There are discrete terminal plates (11, 12) mounted on one surface of a substrate (10) in spaced-apart relationship to each other but still quite close to each other. Electrical connections are made by the customer to the terminal plates (11, 12), at different regions thereof, without adversely affecting the tight-tolerance relationship. The terminal plates (11, 12) additionally provide heat spreading from the resistance film (25), enhancing the power handling capability of this low-resistance, high-power chip resistor.

Debris-reducing film-type resistor and method

A resistor combination and method, that is formed by a substrate having a resistive film on it, and pins extruding from one edge of the substrate and connected to the film. A U-shaped cold region is provided on the substrate around at least much of the film, and is so constructed that application of common high overload voltages to the pins causes vertical fracture of the substrate. The resulting substrate pieces are held by the pins to the circuit board. In one embodiment, a synthetic resin housing is provided around the substrate.

Method of making a compact, high-voltage, noninductive, film-type resistor

A method of making a high-voltage, noninductive, film-type resistor by providing on an insulating substrate a coating of resistive material. A laser beam is then operated to cut through the coating and remove portions so shaped that the remaining coating portions form a zigzag line. The laser cutting is so effected that each zig converges toward the adjacent zag at an angle sufficiently small that there is a major inductance-cancellation effect. Stated more definitely, the laser cutting is done by making an elongated laser cut through the coating to thus expose a portion of substrate beneath the cut, then making another laser cut substantially parallel to the first-mentioned cut and having a length substantially different from that of the first-mentioned cut, thus exposing a portion of substrate beneath such other cut, and then repeating the cutting steps but with cut lengths and positions progressively different in such manner that during the repetitions the laser-beam creates a zigzag line of resistive material.
