A method for manufacturing a sterile lancet comprising:retaining a lancet needle within a mold cavity of a mold;injecting plastic to form a lancet body substantially encapsulating the needle therein; andmaintaining a specified minimum mold temperature for a specified minimum cycle time effective to sterilize the lancet needle.2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the lancet further comprises a removable endcap detachably secured to the plastic lancet body and covering a sharp tip of the needle.3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the specified minimum temperature is at least about 370° Fahrenheit.4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the specified minimum time is at least about 10 seconds.5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the specified minimum mold temperature is maintained by a heating element at least partially embedded in the mold and adjacent the mold cavity.6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the heating element is embedded completely within the mold and does not interfere with the mold cavity.7. Antimicrobial formulations are provided for use in gels, fluids, cleaning materials, such as medical swabs and wipes, and the like and methods for decreasing the risk of bacterial colonization and biofilm on devices that in-dwell, penetrate and/or navigate in the body. An antibiotic gel formulation is provided that comprises ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) in about 1 percent to about 6 percent by weight. The formulations described herein may be particularly beneficial in both the prevention and treatment of biofilms found within, on, or near in-dwelling medical devices, as well as biofilms found on, or within, body tissue, such as abiotic (i.e., wound dressing) and biotic (i.e., wound bed) environments.
