Condensers.-In a cooling-tower in which steam may be condensed, a reaction - type water-wheel b, driven by the water &c. to be cooled, radially - disposed rotary grids c over which the water is distributed, and a fan d to create an upward draught of air are mounted on the same spindle a. The motor consists of a pair of nozzles supplied by the pipe e. The water is delivered to a stationary trough f and falls into a rotatable trough g fixed to the spindle a, whence it passes to the grids. The grids consist of radial bars so inclined that the impact of water upon them tends to augment the rotation of the grids and to increase the upward draught of air. Air inlets i are arranged at the base of the tower. The water may be circulated by a pump k. To condense steam &c., the steam is admitted by the pipe m to meet the water descending the pipe e.
