One embodiment provides a method for centralizing an inner casing within an outer casing that includes introducing an expansion tool into the inner casing. A well is completed by cementing a casing string in place in the well. A jetting tool assembly is run into the casing string on a tubing string. The jetting tool assembly engages a sliding sleeve of a casing valve and slides the sliding sleeve to an open position uncovering a plurality of housing ports in the casing valve housing in which the sleeve is received. Then, disintegratable plugs are hydraulically jetted from the housing ports to communicate a subsurface formation adjacent the casing valve with an interior of the casing string. Preferably, prior to opening the sleeve and hydraulically jetting the plugs, residual cement is drilled from the casing string, then further residual cement is hydraulically jetted from the casing valve, and then the casing valve is backwashed by reverse circulation.

An apparatus for opening perforations in a casing string. The casing string has a special casing section defining a plurality of holes therethrough. Rupturable ceramic discs or inserts are disposed in said holes and retained therein. The ceramic discs or inserts are adapted to withstand the fluid differential pressures normally present in the wellbore but are rupturable in response to impact by a mild explosive charge. The explosive charge is provided by detonating a length of det-cord disposed in the casing string adjacent to the holes in the special casing section. A method of perforating using this apparatus is also disclosed.

A cement head and casing assembly includes a cement head body having a cement passage defined therethrough. The body is mounted on the well casing and has a lower portion extending down into the casing, with an upper portion extending a relatively short distance above an upper end of the casing. A cement plug is closely received within a bore of the casing below the upper end thereof. The cement plug is releasably connected to the lower portion of the cement head body so that the plug is suspended from the lower por-tion of the cement head body within the casing. The cement plug has a plug passage defined therethrough which is com-municated with a cement passage in the cement head body so that cement can be pumped down through the cement head body and the cement plug into the casing. The passage through the cement plug can be closed and the cement plug can be released from the cement plug body after the cement has been pumped into the casing.

A small diameter stage cementer assembly 10 and a hydraulically operated packer collar stage cementer 110, including a cementer housing 12 for interconnection with a casing string 14 positionable in a slim-hole wellbore for a cementing operation. The cementer housing 12 including a seat 11 for receiving a lower, drillable portion 335 of an opening sleeve assembly 135 after the upper drillable portion 235 of the opening sleeve assembly 135 has been drilled out. The lower, drillable portion 335 wedges into engagement with the seat 11 to prevent rotation of the drillable portion 335 during drill-out, such that the lower portion 335 may be drilled up using a small diameter bit and drill string, and accommodating a reduced weight on bit. The packer collar embodiment includes a hydraulically actuatable packer 70. In the packer collar embodiment of the stage cementer 110, cementing ports 34 are provided separate in a separate axial plane from hydraulic inflation ports, such that the secondary opening device or rupture disks may be securely positioned within the cementing ports. Thereby, a relatively thin-walled outer case 20 may be utilized for the hydraulic passageway 130 to the packer 70, without having to increase the case outer diameter to accommodate positioning a rupture disk in the case. The stage cementer housing may be sized for use with a casing string 14 with a nominal OD of4-1/2 inches or less. An improved method of operating a stage cementer is disclosed.

The present invention provides an improved cementing inflation packer tool and methods of using the tool. The tool is comprised of a tubular housing having a packer inflating port disposed therein and a packer inflating port opening sleeve slidably disposed within the housing. The opening sleeve is movable between a closed position and an open position by a first cementing plug. An external packer sleeve having a pressurized fluid inflatable packer element attached thereto and a cementing port therein is sealingly disposed over the outer surface of the housing and the packer inflating port. The external packer sleeve provides a passageway from the packer inflating port to the inflatable packer element and check valve means are disposed in the passageway. A fluid rupturable member having a predetermined rupture pressure is sealingly attached over the cementing port.

Abstract Of The Disclosure An isolation gravel packer includes a housing which has a stinger receptacle disposed therein. The stinger receptacle has an open upper end and an inner cylindrical seal bore. The inner cylindrical seal bore sealingly receives a concentric inner tubing string therein for delivering a treatment fluid thereto. A treatment fluid passage is disposed laterally through the housing for communicating an interior of the stinger receptacle at an elevation below the seal bore with the well zone to be treated. First and second external seals are disposed on an exterior of the housing above and below the treatment fluid passage, respectively, for sealing between the housing and a liner bore. The housing also includes a combination bypass passage and return fluid passage disposed therein which is iso-lated from the treatment fluid passage. Treatment fluid is flowed from a surface location down through the concentric inner tubing string, then through the treatment fluid passage to the well zone. Return fluid flows from the well zone upward through the combination bypass passage and return fluid passage, then through an annulus between an outer tubing string and the con-centric inner tubing string to the surface location.

A self-filling tubular cementing collar connected to the lower end of a casing string is provided with one-way flow valving that allows well fluid to enter and self-fill the casing string as it is lowered into the wellbore and automatically prohibits reverse fluid flow from the collar when washing or cementing during forward circulation through the collar. The one-way valving is carried by an axially movable support that can be shifted by a cementing plug moved by pump pressure to permanently seal the entry flow passage after the casing sting is properly positioned in the wellbore.

A short stroke casing valve with positioning and jetting tools therefor. The casing valve has a sliding sleeve within a housing. The housing defines a housing communication port therethrough, and a seal is disposed on longitudinally opposite sides of the housing communication port. The sleeve has a selective latch profile therein adapted for engagement by the positioning tool. The positioning tool has outwardly biased positioner blocks which automatically engage the sliding sleeve. The positioner blocks have a selective latch profile thereon which is adapted for engagement with the latch profile in the sliding sleeve. This latch profile in the positioner tool prevents undesirable engagement of the positioner blocks with any other portion of the casing string except the latch profile in the casing valve. In one embodiment, a non-rotational jetting tool includes a plurality of circumferentially spaced jetting orifices therein. There is a sufficient number of orifices so that at least one of the orifices is substantially radially aligned with the housing communication port when longitudinally aligned therewith, so that jetting through the housing communication port may be accomplished without rotation of the tool string. A jetting tool having rotational jetting is also disclosed.

Abstract of the Disclosure A coiled tubing operated full opening completion tool system for use in a well bore. The tool system comprises a completion tool, such as a casing valve, disposed in a well casing. The tool system further comprises a positioner tool for opening and closing a sliding sleeve in the casing valve. A hydraulically actuated operating cylinder section, including opening and closing cylinder sections, is used to actuate the positioner tool to open and close the casing valve sleeve. Hydraulic slips lock the tool in position in the well bore during actuation. The tool further comprises a jetting tool which is hydraulically actuated between an open position thereof in which fluid in the tool is communicated through a jetting nozzle aligned with a port in the casing tool and a closed position. A J-slot and lug are provided in the positioner tool for controlling the longitudinal position thereof during opening and closing of the casing valve sleeve. Another J-slot and lug are provided in the jetting tool for controlling the longitudinal position of a jetting sleeve therein for opening and closing the jetting tool. A spring in the jetting tool biases the jetting sleeve toward its closed position. The tool is specifically designed for, but not limited to, use on coiled tubing.

The setting mechanism of the present invention is basically comprised of a tubular pump down plug receptacle having a plug seat defined therein. A cylindrical pump down setting plug having a central flow passage and a rupturable member disposed therein to prevent flow, therethrough is dropped into a work string and the tubular plug receptacle. The pump down setting plug will engage the plug seat and pressure can be increased to the setting pressure required to set a hydraulically actuated liner hanger. The pressure can then be further increased to the rupture pressure of the rupturable member to provide for full bore flow through the pump down setting plug.

Abstract Of The Disclosure A system is provided for gravel-packing a zone of a well. An operating string of the system includes a liner hanger setting tool. A liner string is concentrically disposed about the operating string and has its upper end detachably connected to a lower end of the liner hanger setting tool. The liner hanger setting tool includes a rotatable ball valve disposed in a housing bore thereof. The liner string and operating string are lowered together on an outer drill pipe string into the well until a liner hanger of the liner string is located at a desired location. Then the liner hanger is set within the well at a desired location in response to an increase in pressure within the outer tubing string. Then the ball valve of the liner hanger setting tool is opened in response to an increase in pressure within a well annulus. A concentric inner tubing string is lowered through the outer pipe string, then through a ball valve bore of the open ball valve and into operable engagement with an isolation gravel packer of the operating string. Gravel laden slurry is directed down the concentric inner tubing string to a zone to be gravel-packed, and return fluid returns through a tubing annulus between the concentric inner tubing string and the outer tubing string.

Abstract Of The Disclosure A casing cementer with torque-limiting rotating positioning tool. The casing cementer comprises a housing with a rotating valve sleeve therein. A positioning tool is used to rotate the valve sleeve between open and closed positions thereof. No reciprocation of the positioning tool is required. The valve sleeve has a sealing ring molded thereto for sealing between the housing and the valve sleeve. The valve sleeve preferably has an inside diameter at least as large as an inside diameter of the casing. A stop is provided to limit movement of the valve sleeve when it reaches either the open or closed position. A clutch in the positioning tool provides for torque-limitation and a ratcheting indication to the operator at the surface when the valve sleeve has been opened or closed.

Systems and methods for activating a down hole tool in a wellbore. A piston is moveable from a first position to a second position for activating the down hole tool. The piston includes a first side exposed to a first chamber, and a second side exposed to a second chamber. A rupture member has a first side exposed to the first chamber and a second side exposed to a third chamber. The rupture member is configured to rupture when a pressure differential between the first chamber and the third chamber reaches a predetermined threshold value, at which point the rupture member allows fluid communication between the first chamber and the third chamber. When the rupture member is intact, the piston is in the first position, and when the rupture member ruptures, the piston moves to the second position and activates the down hole tool.

An improved float valve according to the present invention includes a packer 10 for positioning within a joint of the casing C while at the surface of the well, the packer including a float valve receptacle therein for at least partially receiving a float valve. The float valve body includes a valve seat 56 and a valve member 54 is positioned for selective engagement and disengagement with the valve seat. A guide nose 58 may be optionally provided for positioning within the casing joint between the valve body and the pin end of the casing joint. The float valve body may be reliably fixed and sealed to the packer body. After the packer setting operation, the casing joint and the packer and the float valve may then be positioned as an assembly within the well.
