Fabric enclosure backlighting techniques are described. In one or more implementations, one or more translucent portions are formed within a plurality of layers of a fabric enclosure assembly. In one approach, regions within one or multiple layers are laser etched to form the translucent portions within the fabric enclosure assembly. A light source is then arranged to selectively transmit light through the layers via the translucent portions to provide backlight for one or more elements integrated with fabric enclosure assembly. The one or more elements may include representations of input keys and/or graphics associated with the fabric enclosure assembly. The backlight may be used to view the one or more elements in low light and/or provide backlight effects such as borders, side lighting, labels, and so forth.

A method comprising:identifying an interchangeable surface that has been physically connected to an input device base of an input device, the input device base having a plurality of sensors configured to initiate respective inputs;obtaining a mapping of indications of inputs of the interchangeable surface to respective one or more said sensors of the input device base based at least in part on the identifying; andapplying the obtained mapping such that a computing device communicatively and physically coupled to the input device associates the indications with the respective one or more sensors.2. A method as described in claim 1 , wherein the identifying is based on an identifier stored as part of the interchangeable surface.3. An input device comprising:an input portion having one or more keys configured to generate signals to be processed by a computing device as inputs;a connection portion that is configured to be removable attachable to the computing device and including at least one communication contact configured to form a communicative coupling with the computing device to communicate the generated signals;a flexible hinge that is configured to flexibly and communicatively connect the connection portion to the input portion;first and second outer fabric layers that are configured to act as an outer surface of the one or more keys of the input portion and the flexible hinge and are physically secured to the connection portion.2.
