A weather resistant coating composition comprising a miscible polymer blend of highly crystalline polyvinylidene fluoride polymer and polyalkyl methacrylate, such as PVDF and PMMA. The miscible blend comprises from about 50 weight percent to about 90 weight percent polymer comprising polyvinylidene fluoride and from about 10 weight percent to about 50 weight percent polyalkyl methacrylate. The polyalkyl methacrylate having a molecular weight within the range of about 25,000 grams per mole to about 200,000 grams per mole. The crystallinity of the polyvinylidene fluoride polymer is about 20% to about 70%. The weather resistant coating has excellent and unexpected physical characteristics, including solvent resistance and gloss retention.

The coagulant precipitates the vinylidene fluoride and polymer, and the precipitant is filtered and dried forming the powder coating. The powder coating is homogenous. The coating comprises no solvents and can be applied to a number of substrates.

The aromatic polyimide in the miscible polymer blend acts as a nucleating agent for PVDF crystallization. The miscible polymer blend comprising PVDF and aromatic polyimide does not exhibit the negative characteristic of reduced mechanical strength encountered in PVDF and polymer alloys known in the art. The PVDF/aromatic polyimide alloy is prepared by dissolving, separately, PVDF and the aromatic polyimide in a solvent and blending the solutions to form the required composition.

ACCORDING TO THE INVENTION, THIS COMPOUND IS THE PRODUCT OF THE REACTION OF AN EPOXY RESIN CONTAINING MORE THAN ONE AND PREFERENCE TWO HYDROXYL GROUPS AND OF A POLYISOCYANATE, PREFERREDLY A DIISOCYANATE, THE COMPOUND IS FORMED IN THE PRESENCE OF AN AGENT HEAT REACTING EPOXY HARDENER. THE INVENTION APPLIES IN PARTICULAR TO ADHESIVES, SEALING AGENTS OR COATINGS THAT CAN BE HEAT CURED.

This invention is directed to processes for forming either solid, linear polymers or thermoset polymers from novel N-cyanourea compounds of the formula: ##STR1## wherein n is at least 2 and R is the organic moiety of a polyisocyanate remaining after reacting the NCO groups of the polyisocyanate with cyanamide, preferably under atmospheric conditions. These N-cyanourea compounds are polymerized to solid, linear polymers useful as an epoxy curing agent, by agitation for about 50 hours under atmospheric conditions or to a thermoset polymer useful per se as an adhesive or sealant by heating at a temperature above 90° C.

The reactive plastisol dispersion when fluxed can be useful as a sealant or adhesive.

Abstract of the Disclosure A one component, solventless, storage stable, low temperature, curable urethane composition comprising (1) a branched, blocked isocyanate prepolymer comprising the reaction product of a polyol having a functionality of at least 2, an aromatic polyisocyanate having a functionality of at least 2, the combined functionality of the polyol and the polyisocyanate being greater than 4 and a ketoxime blocker; (2) a polyol crosslinking agent containing at least two OH groups; (3) a deblocking and curing catalyst for (1); and (4) a dessicant. The composition on heating to 100-120°C results in a cured polyurethane within 10 - 30 minutes. The composition can also be combined with polymeric powder, e.g., polymethylmethacrylate to yield cured reactive plastisols. The aforesaid compositions are useful as sealants, coatings or adhesives.

The polymer (P) is preferably a fluoropolymer; it can be either a partially fluorinated fluoropolymer, such as ECTFE, or a perfluorinated fluoropolymer such as TFE polymers. The water-based polymer compositions of this invention may be notably found useful for coating applications where organic solvents may not be desired or tolerated.
