A pump for solids handling is provided having a suction liner in combination with an impeller. The suction liner has a suction liner spiral design. The impeller has forward curved impeller suction side pump out vanes. The suction liner spiral design and the forward curved impeller suction side pump out vanes are configured to handle solids substantially having a weight concentration (Cw)<about 40% and/or a solids size distribution <about 200 microns, and to exclude abrasive solids from an impeller/suction side liner gap by increasing the resistance to slurry flow from a high pressure area at the periphery of the impeller periphery, and expel the solids which do manage to enter the impeller/suction side liner gap by guiding the solids away from a suction eye of the impeller, so abrasive erosion is substantially prevented to significantly reduce wear and a tight clearance is substantially maintained at the impeller/suction side liner gap between the impeller and the suction liner, which prevents degradation of pump performance through excessive leakage.

In order to determine whether a blue-to-green diamond (1) has been artificially irradiated or ion bombarded to change its colour, it is irradiated with light of 633 nm wavelength in order to stimulate the emission of luminescence, and luminescence from about 680 to about 800 nm is detected using a confocal microscope (3) and a spectrometer (8) as the focal plane (9) is scanned vertically through the diamond (1). A rapid decrease in luminescence with increase in depth indicates natural irradiation whilst a more rapid decrease indicates ion bombardment. Alternatively, in order to determine whether a diamond (1) is a natural/synthetic doublet, it is irradiated with radiation of 325 nm wavelength in order to stimulate the emission of luminescence, and luminescence from 330 to 450 nm is detected. An abrupt change in luminescence with increase in depth indicates that the diamond is a natural/synthetic doublet.

A crystalline paroxetine hydrochloride mixed solvate, that is more easily desolvated than the propan-2-ol solvate to form the anhydrate, is obtained by contacting crystalline propan-2-ol solvate with a transformation solvent. Suitable transformation solvents are an ether, ketone, chlorinated hydrocarbon, nitrile, lower alcohol, or ester, or a mixture thereof. Crystalline paroxetine hydrochloride anhydrate is obtained by heating the mixed solvate in a vacuum oven.

The instrument has a housing (1) mounting the following components to provide a self-contained, stand-alone instrument: a compact solid state 532nm laser 9 coupled to a window (5) in a thermally-insulated container (2) for liquid nitrogen and the gemstone (4); a compact solid state diode 655 nm laser (10) coupled to the window (5); two compact, sensitive CCD spectrometers 11a and 11b detecting luminescence features with zero-phonon lines at in the range 550-1000 nm; a processor (17) for processing the signals from the spectrometers 11a and 11b to indicate whether the gemstone (4) is a natural diamond which has not been subjected to irradiation treatment or hgih-pressure high-temperature treatment; and a display (18). The container (2) has a cover (6) and a pin (8) which is used to place and hold the gemstone (4) against the window (5).
