Polymers comprising fluorinated side chains that can be used for water resistance coatings on substrates and are deposited by initiated chemical vapor deposition are generally described. 1. An article , comprising:{'sub': 1', '7, 'a crosslinked polymer matrix comprising pendant groups, wherein the pendant groups comprise a C-Cfluoroalkyl group, and wherein the crosslinked polymer matrix has a water contact angle of greater than 90°.'}2. The article of claim 1 , wherein the C-Cfluoroalkyl group is not a Cfluoroalkyl group.3. The article of claim 1 , wherein the C-Cfluoroalkyl group is a Cfluoroalkyl group.4. The article of claim 1 , wherein the pendant groups comprise a C-Cfluoroalkyl group.5. The article of claim 1 , wherein the pendant groups comprise a perfluorinated group.6. The article of claim 1 , wherein the pendant groups comprise a spacer group.7. The article of claim 6 , wherein the spacer group comprises an ester group.8. The article of claim 6 , wherein the spacer group comprises a methylene group.9. The article of claim 6 , wherein the spacer group comprises a —C(O) O—CH— group.10. (canceled)11. The article of claim 6 , wherein the fluoroalkyl group is attached to a backbone of the crosslinked polymer matrix via the spacer group.12. The article of claim 1 , wherein the crosslinked polymer matrix is crosslinked with divinylbenzene.13. The article of claim 1 , wherein the crosslinked polymer matrix has a water contact angle hysteresis of less than or equal to about 30°.14. The article of claim 1 , wherein the crosslinked polymer matrix is positioned on a substrate claim 1 , optionally wherein the crosslinked polymer matrix is deposited onto the substrate by initiated chemical vapor deposition.15. The article of claim 14 , wherein the crosslinked polymer matrix is covalently bound to the substrate.16. The article of claim 14 , wherein the substrate is a fabric or paper.17. (canceled)18.
