Compositions, systems and methods for the controlled and/or delayed release of chemical additive components into an aqueous fluid used in hydraulic fracturing of oil and/or gas wells. The coating is permeable, but insoluble in an aqueous medium, whereupon the additive components are released into the medium. 1.
