The invention relates to a rope (1) made of textile fibre material, which is characterized by the combination of features whereby a) the load-bearing fibre material of the rope (1) consists of high-strength synthetic fibres, b) the rope (1) is in the form of a spiral strand rope, c) the rope (1) has at least two, preferably at least three concentric load-bearing strand layers (3, 4, 5), d) the individual strands (7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12) of the strand layers (3, 4, 5) are movable with respect to one another, e) the degree of filling of the rope (1) with textile fibre material is ≥ 75%, preferably ≥ 85%, and f) the outermost ply (5, 6) of the rope has a coefficient of friction μ with respect to steel of μ < 0.15.

The cable (1) structure, without a covering, has shaped wire strands (2) at intervals round a plastics core (3). The strands (2) have a trapezoid cross section, with an air space (4) between them The cable uses six to eight strands (2), and pref. six, with a trapezoid cross section. The inner core (3) has a round cross section, with parts of its material forced outwards between the strands (2) through the cable twisting action, forming the air gaps (4) between the strands (2). Spacers can be inserted radially inwards into the air gaps (4) between the strands (2), as tensioners or support strands of a compact plastics or processed plastics fibers. The trapezoid wire strands (2) are compacted, with core inserts of compacted plastics or processed plastics fibers. The strands (2) can contain metal cores. The cable core (3) can have a softer outer plastics material than its center section.

Linear wire or combination of wires is made from an austenitic manganese steel containing more than 10 wt.% manganese. An independent claim is also included for a method for the production of the linear wire comprising intermediate annealing of the wire after quenching above 1000[deg] C and strain hardening, especially rolling or drawing, to a temperature below 1000[deg] C, further quenching and cold rolling.
