Packets are encapsulated and sent from a service node to one or more application nodes for applying one or more Layer-4 to Layer-7 services to the packets. Before which for a packet, the service node performs a lookup operation based on a destination address of the packet in a routing data structure derived from a exterior network protocol, such as, but not limited to Border Gateway Protocol (BGP). This lookup operation results in the identification of a next hop packet switching device to which the packet would be sent from the service node. The service node includes this identification of the next hop address in the request packet sent to the application node(s). After the service(s) are applied to the packet, an application node will send the services-applied packet to this next hop address. In this manner, application nodes do not need to run an exterior network protocol. Although, they typically will run an Interior Gateway Protocol for identifying how to forward packets to the next hop address.

A method controls a transmission of a vehicle. The vehicle includes an engine for driving wheels, a transmission coupled between the engine and the wheels. The transmission automatically selects driving gear positions enabling the vehicle to move in a forward or reverse direction. The method provides gear shift structure associated with the transmission. A method of determining the acute rejection status of a heart transplant in a subject using a biomarker panel comprising one or more nucleic acid markers , the method comprising the steps of:a. determining the nucleic acid expression profile of the one or more nucleic acid markers in a biological sample from the subject, the nucleic acid markers selected from the group consisting of the nucleic acid markers in Table 3,b. comparing the nucleic acid expression profile to a control profile,c. determining whether expression of the one or more nucleic acid markers is increased or decreased relative to the control profile, wherein the increased or decreased expression of the one or more nucleic acid markers is indicative of the acute rejection status of the subject.2. Tracheostomy apparatus including electrical means to indicate the presence of features in the region of the tracheostomy, this may include a needle 10 with a doppler ultrasound transducer 40 mounted within it close to its patient end 13 and connected to a monitor 3. Two electrodes 14 and 15 are insulated from one another on the external surface of the needle 10 close to its patient end 13. The electrodes 14 and 15 are also connected to the monitor 3. The needle 10 supports a catheter 30 on its outer surface. As the needle 10 is inserted through tissue 5 overlying the trachea 2, the ultrasound transducer 40 detects the presence of any nearby blood vessels 6 and gives an audible indication on the monitor 3. The monitor 3 also responds to a rise in impedance between the electrodes 14 and 15 indicative of entry of the end 13 of the needle 10 into the trachea 2 so that the needle can be removed to leave the catheter 30 in place. A guide (60) is then inserted through the catheter 30 and the path into the trachea 2 is enlarged with a dilator (61) sufficiently to receive a tracheostomy tube (62).

To ensure a LES issues address resolution responses when necessary, an association between a MAC/ATM address pair and an intersubnet shortcut virtual channel connection (VCC) is registered. When the LES receives a first data frame being sent from a first station to a second station, with the second station having a MAC address associated with a shortcut VCC, a second data frame is created. The second data frame has as a source address the MAC address. The second frame is sent to devices associated with the first station so that the devices may learn the origination point for the second station and can issue messaging necessary to establish an shortcut VCC. In addition, frame loss reduction in an ATM communications network is accomplished by registering an association between a MAC address of a router associated with a MAC/ATM address pair, and a shortcut VCC. After the association is registered, a data frame being sent from a first station to a second station is received. The second station has the same MAC address as the MAC/ATM address pair. The destination MAC address of the data frame is replaced with the MAC address of the router, wherein the data frame can now be delivered. Also, a first station is prevented from having to wait to send data to a second station over a newly created shortcut VCC by registering an association between a MAC/ATM address pair and a shortcut VCC. Next, a flush request message from an edge device on an ELAN is received. The flush request has a destination ATM address equal to the ATM address of the MAC/ATM address pair. A flush response message is sent to the edge device, where upon receiving the flush response message, the edge device will start sending data from the first station to the second station over the newly created shortcut VCC.

The microprocessor has circuitry which is responsive to an emulate enable signal, or to a predetermined instruction code, so that normal execution is halted at the end of the ion, with execution jumping to a predetermined vector. Responsive to a dump signal, the microprocessor begins execution of a routine which presents a predetermined series of memory addresses on a memory bus, in conjunction with the contents of registers internal to the microprocessor. Accordingly, the addressed locations of a memory device connected to the memory bus can be written with the register contents, for subsequent interrogation by the user. Similarly, responsive instead to a load command, a routine is executed which presents the series of addresses to the memory bus and loads the internal registers with the data values presented on the memory bus. The load feature is similarly utilized by the user's loading of the addressed memory locations with the desired contents of the internal registers. A system containing a microprocessor constructed according to the invention may be configured so that the emulate enable signal is generated by the control signals generated by the microprocessor upon each instruction fetch from the external memory.

A method and system for providing enhanced peer redundancy in an ATM emulated local area network (ELAN) served by a primary LAN emulation server (LES), a peer LAN emulation server, a broadcast and unknown server (BUS), and a LAN emulation configuration server (LECS). An enhanced peer redundancy virtual channel connection (VCC) is established between the primary LES/BUS and the peer LES/BUS. The primary LES/BUS and the peer LES/BUS exchange status messages every two seconds indicating the number of assigned LECs. If the primary has fewer LECs than the peer, the primary yields to the peer as the active LES/BUS. If an enhanced redundancy VCC was not established, the backup LES/BUS provides ELAN services while waiting for the primary to call to establish an enhanced redundancy VCC. If an enhanced peer redundancy VCC cannot be established, the primary attempts to establish a redundancy VCC with the peer in which the peer LES/BUS is kept in a dormant mode as long as the redundancy VCC is present. If the redundancy VCC is absent, the peer LES/BUS is activated to service the ELAN.
