A conductive polymer composition which exhibits PTC behavior comprises a crystalline organic polymer, carbon black, and a high resistivity particulate filler. The high resistivity filler is semiconductive and has a resistivity at least 100 times that of the carbon black. Compositions of the invention exhibit good resistance stability when exposed to thermal cycling. They are useful in electrical devices requiring compositions with high resistivity.

The power system ( 10 ) includes a power bus ( 11 ) and a converter ( 22 ) connected across the power bus ( 11 ) for converting alternating current (AC) power from an AC power source ( 20 ) to direct current (DC) power and delivering the DC power to the power bus ( 11 ). The power system ( 10 ) also includes a plurality of inverters ( 26 a, 26 b, 26 c ) connected across the power bus ( 11 ). Each inverter ( 26 a, 26 b, 26 c ) is connected to a hoist motor ( 18 a, 18 b, 18 c ) and is operable to drive the hoist motor ( 18 a, 18 b, 18 c ) when the hoist motor ( 18 a, 18 b, 18 c ) is motoring by converting the DC power from the power bus ( 11 ) into AC power. Each inverter ( 26 a, 26 b, 26 c ) is further operable to convert AC power produced by the hoist motor ( 18 a, 18 b, 18 c ) when the motor is generating to DC power and to deliver the DC power to the power bus ( 11 ). A controller ( 31 ) manages power on the power bus ( 11 ) by controlling operation of the converter ( 22 ) and the inverters ( 26 a, 26 b, 26 c ) to drive a motoring hoist motor with power delivered to the power bus ( 11 ) by the converter ( 22 ) and generating hoist motors.

Electrical devices, particularly circuit protection devices, contain conductive polymer elements whose edges are formed by breaking the conductive polymer element, along a desired path, without the introduction of any solid body into the element. The resulting cohesive failure of the conductive polymer produces a distinctive fractured surface. One method of preparing such devices involves etching fracture channels in the electrodes of a plaque containing a PTC conductive polymer element sandwiched between metal foil electrodes, and then snapping the plaque along the fracture channels to form individual devices. The figure illustrates a circuit protection device made in this way.

A method for preparing hydrotreating catalysts containing Group VIII and/or Group VIB catalytically active metals on a support, and particularly those containing nickel and molybdenum, are improved in hydrodenitrification (HDN) activity by incorporating zero-valence molybdenum and/or tungsten carbonyls into the catalyst support by mixing a liquid mixture containing metal carbonyl(s); a catalytic amount of dienes, trienes or monoaromatics; and free sulfur; with a dried catalyst support and heating the liquid-solid mixture until metal carbonyl conversion to metal disulfide is substantially complete. The catalyst is then dried followed by calcining in inert gas, before use in a hydrotreating process.

A controller (31) manages power on the power bus (11) by controlling operation of the converter (22) and the inverters (26a, 26b, 26c) to drive a motoring hoist motor with power delivered to the power bus (11) by the converter (22) and generating hoist motors.

A fruit chiller includes a bowl-like fruit container and a removable cover, each of which has a two layer wall defining therebetween annular cooling air flow passages. Cool air is delivered from a lower base and, when the cover is on the container, cool air flows upwardly through the interconnected annular passages and into the container at the top of the cover. The air flows downwardly and exits the container at the bottom, thereby maximizing the distance between the cool air inlet and outlet to maximize the time the cool air remains within the container.
