The present application provides an aqueous emulsion polymer free of ethyl acrylate comprising (a) monomers (i) methyl acrylate, (ii) butyl acrylate and (iii) methacrylic acid; (b) crosslinker and (c) at least one surfactant. The present invention also provides the use of such emulsion polymers along with acid, cationic polymer, oil and other additives as low pH rheology modifiers and suspending aids for surfactant based micelle technology, emulsions and complex fluids in personal care, home care and industrial applications. 1. An aqueous emulsion polymer comprising:a) monomers: i) from about 12 mole % to about 27 mole % of butyl acrylate; ii) from about 23 mole % to about 50 mole % of methyl acrylate; and iii) from about 30 mole % to about 50 mole % of methacrylic acid;b) from about 200 ppm to about 3000 ppm of at least one crosslinking agent; andc) from about 0.5 wt. % to 2.0 wt. % of at least one anionic or non-ionic surfactant.2. The aqueous emulsion polymer according to claim 1 , wherein said ethylacrylate monomer is present in not more than 1.0 mole % of the total polymer composition.3. The aqueous emulsion polymer according to claim 1 , wherein said crosslinking agent is selected from the group consisting of divinyl ethers of an aliphatic diol of 1 claim 1 ,2-ethanediol claim 1 , 1 claim 1 ,3-propanediol claim 1 , 1 claim 1 ,4-butanediol claim 1 , 1 claim 1 ,5-pentanediol claim 1 , 1 claim 1 ,6-hexanediol claim 1 , 1 claim 1 ,7-heptanediol claim 1 , 1 claim 1 ,8-octanediol claim 1 , 1 claim 1 ,9-nonanediol claim 1 , 1 claim 1 ,10-decanediol claim 1 , 1 claim 1 ,11-undecanediol claim 1 , 1 claim 1 ,12-dodecanediol claim 1 , divinyl ethers of diethylene glycol of triethylene glycol claim 1 , tetraethylene glycol claim 1 , pentaethylene glycol; hexaethylene glycol claim 1 , heptaethylene glycol claim 1 , octaethylene glycol claim 1 , nonaethylene glycol claim 1 , decaethylene glycol claim 1 , polyalkylene glycols and acrylates of polyethylene glycol diacrylate ...
