... 1,061,751. Terminals; carrying conductors through partitions. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Feb. 20, 1964 [March 1, 1963], No. 8262/63. Heading H2E. Current is supplied to a device in a cryostat through a conductor arranged in a duct conveying gas which has evaporated from the cryogenic liquid away from the cryostat, the gas extracting heat, from the conductor and so reducing the amount of heat conducted into the cryostat. As shown, a device 3 immersed in liquid helium in a Dewar flask 1 is connected to conductors 4, 5 each connected to a correspond - ing input conductor 10, 11 through a helical crinkled copper strip 8, 9. The strips are wound between one another around a common cylinder 6 of resin-bonded paper and enclosed by a similar cylinder 7, and the gas passes between the strips and out through a vent 12. The system may be a closed one in which the gas is reused. One of the helical passages may be filled with glass fibre, and the lower end of cylinder 6 may be replaced ...
